How the West was One at Willy Lit Fest (June 17)

 

The Williamstown Literary Festival is one of the best bookish events in town each year and this year’s event will be no exception.

 

 

HOW THE WEST WAS ONE

 

Join editors Sue O’Brien and Karyn Howie, together with Josephine Cafagna, Carmel Taig, Lucia Nardo, Kevin Harrington and other contributors as they celebrate the richness of working class childhoods.

 

 

How the West was One is a beautiful collection of post World War II memoirs from these writers and many more. In the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, Melbourne’s gritty western suburbs were the playgrounds for a bunch of kids who were like cats. They were thrown out the back door in the morning and came home just before dinner. From harassing the swaggies on the banks of Yarraville’s Stony Creek, to pulling beers in a Newport pub and making mischief at Altona’s Magazine Pier, this book celebrates the richness of working class childhoods.

 

 

This event will run from 3:30PM until 4:30PM on Sunday June 17th at the Williamstown Town Hall Council Chamber as part of the Willy Lit Fest.
