clock ticks down
only Pendlebury
with time to spare
injuries pile up
we win the game
in small fragments
just
as I start complaining
a goal
no free-kick –
I storm out
of the living room
close finish –
an excuse
for another drink
last rays –
we start the last quarter
with a flicker of hope
winning goal
I see myself
in the crowd
