Fearless – Round 8 Review: Stop the fights at the footy for Christ’s sake!

Dane Spiderman Rampe was lucky he didn’t cost his side the game for climbing for the goalpost on the final siren! The Bombers supporters can rightly feel aggrieved. If David Myers had kicked that 60 metre goal well…anyway The 5 points margin in the Buddy-less Sydney’s favour is more an indication of the evenness of the comp. OOOrazio 4.

AFL footy returned to Ballarat on a cloudy, cold and windy day. MARS Stadium welcomed Brisbane, hosted by the Doggies on their alternate dungheap. A solid start by the Lions took a 9 point lead in a contrary climate and then the Doggies runners started to get on top, assisted by a more productive forward 50. Dogs by 16. Naughton 3, Dunkley 36 stats.

Carlton have traditionally been rivals with Collingwood although the fortunes of 2019 were vastly different and yet strangely similar. Both searching for that extra edge in development to take them to the next step. In the end, despite the valiant efforts of the Blues, Collingwood had the edge in class to get a 19pt win kicking the last 5 goals.

Chaos ensues within the last minute at Club Metricon. The Dees got home, after Nick Holman kicked a Suns goal nearly at the 30min mark of the last qtr. 6pt margin, enter new 6-6-6 rule. 40 secs left and the ball is handballed to Demon rookie Marty Hore. Scores level. Gawn tap, clearance to Tom McDonald, a dribble point and a gutsy win.

West Coast came to Marvel to take on the Saints. Granted they had been rusty but the Eagles managed to lead all night, despite the Saints being in striking distance for most of the game. Not pretty, but back on winners list for the Reigning Premiers. Coach Simmo pleased that Saints promising fightback in the last was withstood. WCE 18 points.

Apparently the fiercest rivalry in AFL is the Adelaide and Port Showdown. Although the 5th quarter in the carpark of the Ramsgate Hotel might challenge for SA bragging rights, the suddenly injury-riddled Port were never truly in the hunt. The Crows have regained touch in 2019. Port 6 goals to 3 in the last – junk time goals. Crows 20 points, T Lynch 3.

Inaccuracy, was not what Brad Scott wanted as his Rooscharges took on his twin brothers Cats at Marvel to kick off Mother’s Day. 1.10pm starts bring the crowds to the mothers day table, not the footy! Cats skipper Selwood like a flower in Spring – in out in out. Fortunately Gazza and T. Kelly class above. Roos’ led by Brown  with 5. Cats 24 points.

Speaking of Mother’s Day crowds…just a paltry 14000 turned out to watch the Hawks cut down the beanstalk as the Giants fell to earth with a mighty thud. GWS whinge about not getting enough game time on the MCG…now we know why! If they want to win a flag, this is where YOU NEED TO WIN. Hawks 71, too good, GWS 33…poor.

Injuries Schminjuries…the Tigers don’t need an excuse! Just get the job done…and this time in Perth against Freo. Rightly the Tigers want to be in finals frame. Freothere, but for how long? Despite evening things up in the 2nd qtr, the Tigers put some distance between the two sides, a win by 25 points without big names. Shai not shy, 4. Fyfe 3, 33.
