FEARLESS 2019 Round 7: And on the seventh day he went to the Tribunal and got off!

Port came to tackle Collingwood at Marvel and just about unplugged itself. In a major case of stagefright, the Pies short-circuited the Power in the 1st qtr to lead by 45pts at the 1st change. Despite rallying to within 18pts early in the 3rd, due to a Rozee goal, the Pies soon ran away to a 39pt win. Moore down back inspired, Stephenson 4. Port short.

Despite the media scrutiny, the closeness of the season meant the Dees were never that far away from finding touch. The Hawks were in the way of said goal. Leading by 16pts in the 2nd, the Hawks never seemed in total control. A 5.5 3rd qtr gave Melbourne a chance to turn around the 9pt lead at the half. Last qtr was attrition at best. Dees 5pts.

Meanwhile in Canberra, the Saints took on the Giants in front of the mango and charcoal’s “other” home crowd. A cloudy afternoon saw Jeremy Cameron kick 6 and the Saints never hold the lead. A 39pt lead by GWS at the 1st break meant catchup footy all day. For two sides on same wins and losses, it was strangely lopsided. Giants 44pts.

For the better part of a decade, Sydney had the Lions’ measure, both home and away. On form the Gabba was set for a reversal of fortune. 5.6 in the 1st saw the Lions mean business. A 28pt lead dissipated in the 2nd when the Buddy-less Swans fought back to nearly even it at the half. Tit for tat in the 2nd half, Lions broke thru by 22pts. Papley 4.

After the drought comes the flood, and for the Dogs, a win after 4 losses. The drought breaker personified was former WA teen Aaron Naughton at full forward. He kicked 5 and the injury-riddled Tigers had no match. After a slow start, the Dogs got barking with 4.2 to 1.4 in the 2nd on the way to a 47pt win. 3 dogs 30+, Bont 27, 3 goals.

The Coasters went head to head at Optus Stadium on Saturday Night. At ½ time the Eagles led by 39pts and appeared to be on the way to a 80+pt win. In the last qtr, the Suns got to within 2 goals. It says as much about both teams. Eagles, by 23pts, a bit off the boil, saved by Darling’s heroics. Gold Coast’s improvement. Coach Dew doing well.

Two sides on 1 win, 5 losses squared off at Marvel on Sunday. Carlton rightly favourites – Bolton’s shoots were gaining strength. However, North that came out firing, leaving the injury-riddled Blues in their wake. A 53pt ½ time lead became a 58pt win. Brown 4, Garner, after 600+ days off, back to full impact, and don’t mess with the Zurhaar 5.

The Cats were sitting pretty on top off the table. The Bombers had been good as they headed onto the G for the Farmers Plate. The query Geelong faces is simple: how will it hold up in finals. The answer so far is promising. The Cats of 2019 led for most to win by 32pts. Chest Tatts Stringer kicked 3 as did Cat Duncan. Lid well on at GMHBA.

Two of the current top 8 sides took to Adelaide Oval on Sunday twilight as the Dockers took on the Crows. An intense, defensive game ensued with 1.6 to 2.2 at the 1 /2. 0.3 in total from both teams in the 2nd qtr. Almost finals-like intensity which didn’t let up as the final score was 51 to 34 in the Crows’ favour. Docker Tucker 2…8 x 30+ stats?
