Country’s best young cricketers heading to Jamestown

In a coup for regional cricket, the Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy will be visiting Jamestown, the birthplace of RM Williams, on Wednesday the 21st of November, participating in a Twenty20 match at the Jamestown Oval, Victoria Park from 4pm. The match will feature the fourteen Academy scholars, teaming up with eight Mid North based players. Likely players include State Country representatives Boh Wall and Ryan Simpson, former Woodville player Brodie O’Dea, Orroroo and Tea Tree Gully speedster Todd Baker and star locals Sam Young and Geoffrey “Digger” Thompson.

Since its inception in 2005, the Adelaide based Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy has built a reputation as one of the best Cricket Centre’s of Excellence in the world. Majority of the scholars are from the English County system, with past scholars including England International players Monty Panesar, Ajmal Shazhad, Phil Mustard, Samit Patel and Alex Hales. 2012/2013 scholar Joe Root has recently been selected for England’s upcoming tour of India.

Players to look out for this season include Derbyshire batsman Dan Redfern, Worcestershire’s Nick Harrison, Somerset leg spinner Max Waller, Surrey wicketkeeper Rory Burns and Sussex batsman Joe Gatting, who is the nephew of former England captain Mike. There is a possibility that some of the current group of scholars may return next summer as part of the England Ashes squad.

This is the second high performance visit to the Lehamnn/Gillespie Centre this year, after Dan Christian and Nathan Lyon hosted a training session during the winter as part of the Outbacks to Redbacks program.
