“Backlift!” an ode to the Prince who strode onto Junction Oval for the best of causes

What a thing of beauty
No matter what the occasion
The subtle footwork, the shimmy
The bat poised to round though the trajectory of the incoming delivery

Then swing…bat vertical! The sweet timing
A stroke of beauty – a broad Caribbean smile breaks out
The ball already through the covers
No need to run

A swagger as he hovers about the crease ready to reload another careening drive
Pure class and grace
Effortless
Memories flood back of watching him dismantle Aussie attacks and earn admiration at the same time

Thank you Brian Lara.
