Australia v New Zealand – WACA Test: Call for writers

The WACA is back as a Test venue, after being dropped from a crowded summer last time around. The previous WACA Test was that broiling heatwave against England in late 2013.

Again we aim to cover every day of the Test from the broad Almanac perspective. Please nominate a day to cover, or send us a surprise story. The rough schedule is below.

Day 1: Friday 13 November: Peter_B &
Day 2: Saturday 14 November: J Butler & Josh & Oscar & maybe Dips
Day 3: Sunday 15 November: Smokie & Josh & Oscar & Dips (hypothermia-dependent)
Day 4: Monday 16 November: Tom Martin (tentative)
Day 5: Tuesday 17 November:

Can New Zealand bounce back in Perth, on a ground that’s further from home, both as the Kiwi walks and in terms of pitch conditions, than any other in Australia?

Will Tim Southee be fit to exploit the Fremantle doctor?

Who will shine and add themselves to the list of WACA memories?

Who will share their thoughts & words with us?

Thanks for all who contributed to the Gabba collective. Check out our collected stories of cricket here.

  1. Day 1 – Man on the spot at the worst ground in Australia with the best wicket. Shoab Akhtar was opening the bowling last time I was at a Test.
Interested to see how the occasion strikes me. Captivating contest or a pleasant day out with a book and a glass? We’ll see.

  2. Thanks PB.
    Looking forward to your observations.
The Perth Test, of course, is a beauty for us in the east due to the time difference.
Great memories of backyard cricket until the mozzies drove us inside, and then sitting back for some Test footage as the sun set in Melbourne Town.
Very hopeful of seeing more than the 4 overs or so that I saw from Brisbane.

  3. e.r.
    I can do Day 3.
    Cheers
    Smokie

  4. Good one Smokie.
    ABC radio? Channel 9?

  5. Ha ha.
    Maybe a pre-cursor a bit later on today….

  6. E Reg, put me down for Day 2. I’ll see if I can remember how this writing thing goes.

    Cheers

  7. Hey Mr Gumtree – I’ll be in balmy Tassie with a group of old school mates sipping cold beers at a beach house. Oh, and watching the cricket. Maybe sneak a quick surf in. Reckon there is a story in that?

  8. JoshCoales2002 says

my mate oscar and I would relish the opportunity to write for Saturday and/or Sunday if spots are still available.

  9. J Butler. Boom.

    Dips.
They do a nude swim south of Hobart for the midwinter festival.
    Some kind of solstice madness.
Waters should be well warmed up(!) by now.

Beers + Tasmanian waters + Old school mates + Test cricket on the box + surfing.
It’s got “movie deal” written all over it.
Breath meets Endless Summer meets Jindabyne (hopefully without the body -though without the body there’s no story)

  10. Josh – good on you. Both you and your mate Oscar are more than welcome.
    As is EVERYONE else.

It’s great to read a variety of views.
Step right up, step right up…

  11. Sadly my viewing for this test will be very limited. The biggest game will be for the WACA to draw a bigger crowd than what attended in Brisbane. If there is going to get another 4 test season like last year, the WACA need to prove their case not to miss out again.

  12. Elizabeth Regina, I’ll tentatively nominate Day 4.

Then again, being tentative at the WACA tends to lead to your inevitable downfall.

  13. No worries Wayne. The door is always open. See what happens.

Tom – that is some excellent news. May opportunity loudly knock.
