Anyone for Buffalo Wings?

Shalom one and all,

Not much news on the footy front this week – at least for a Carlton supporter.  Ahhh the “Brian” Judd case, I have espoused my views to many of you so won’t regurgitate that except to say that “he’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!”.  The circus around the case though has muffled a number of other issues from the weekend.  Most notably the Tigers loss to the Gold Coast and the heroics of Karmicheal Hunt.  Several greats of the game have buckled under the pressure of the last kick to win, however his calmness and execution was brilliant.  On the other hand Richmond are running away from Cairns, but really need to look at their “cultural” change.  I recall their cultural discipline enforced on Brad Ottens a few years ago – left the Tigers but a now a multi-premiership player.

The hue and cry regarding Ziebel’s suspension is also ridiculous.  The old timers might be horrified, but the recent interpretations have been pretty clear – if you decide to bump a player there is a “duty of care” and there are consequences for the damage done.  What has me baffled is the lack of clarity of this from the players, several similar cases have been up and the result similar.  As for Drew Petrie’s “tweet” regarding Jack’s courage – what a pile of crap!  I don’t question Ziebel’s courage, however the bump he laid did not put himself at risk.

A look back at last week’s results.  The Roos maintained their record over Carlton and were great value and the Suns proved great value also.  But they were also the two tips I failed on – but the Bloods again proved good result.  But onto this week we have the top eight playing amongst each other plus 9th playing 11th.

The Carnival is Over ($2.04) vs Bombres ($1.92)

Signs are not looking great for the Cats and Essendon on their home patch.  Bombers likely to have too much pace for Geelong and they welcome back Crameri.  A no bet game for mine, but Bombers to salute.

Challenger No 1 ($2.08) vs Flag Favourites ($1.90)

Wow I’m torn on this one – The Pies are good value.  Interesting to see Clarke and Buckley out of the Collingwood side for a couple of youngsters – I suspect Bucks is trying to work out his premiership team and signs aren’t good for the dropped pair.  Meanwhile the Hawks have won their last six against non-contenders – in fact they have not played a “contender” since their Round 5 loss to Sydney.  They are false favourites for the flag and false favourites for this game.  Pies to salute.

FTBBs ($1.47) vs The Coolers ($3.00)

The Crows took to the Giants like the Indian batting lineup takes to the Bangladesh attack on a flat track – in the end it means nothing.  This week they do have a test at home against West Coast.  The inclusion of Q is important to the structure of the Eagles who will be very keen to be competitive.  This is a great test for Adelaide who also have not had a true test for a few weeks.  The home ground advantage makes them my selection – however the Eagles are a punting proposition at $3.

Go Karmichael! ($3.80) vs Kings of Queensland ($1.34)

Can’t see Brisbane dropping this even after the great effort from the Suns last week.  Recovering the conditions in Cairns will be another concern for the Gold Coast.

Jammarred ($2.34) vs The Corleones ($1.74)

“You disrespect me?”  – Brian Cook might have to watch out for the horses head after his club disrespected Port Adelaide.  Geelong still be sooking about Gazza – but no need to descend to the level they did and importantly this is not a practice that I believe the fans want to see and leave it to the NRL.  But back to the Darwin showdown – I reckon the Dees have run out of players and Port will win.

Dog Day Evening ($2.72) vs Northern Blues ($1.54)

The Blues compelled to go into the game with a debutante in the ruck who is coming back from a serious injury – surely these odds are crazy.  Both teams are battling, but the Blues are significantly undermanned with the return of Thornton, Russell and Bower a sign of their challenge.  This should be a 50-50 game.  I will select the Blues out of faith – but for the punters out there the Dogs are great value at anything over $2.20.

So Underrated they’re Overrated ($1.43) vs Not too Saad ($3.25)

Great win by the Bloods last week confirming their credentials as a real contender – whereas the Saints battled but finally overcame the improving Lions.  As testament to both clubs this is a game to look forward as opposed to the stinking 10 goal struggles they used to put on.  Swans are going too well, are not injured and should win on the SCG.

Kulture Kings ($2.26) vs Going to the Wells ($1.73)

The Kangas get their first crack on the MCG for the season – their record away from the loungeroom is pretty poor so that is positive for the Tigers but they are coming off a loss and a tough game in Cairns.  However I reckon the ins are good for Richmond and are happy to tip them in a tight match.

Purple Squeeze ($1.02) vs Not so Giant ($34)

Get Stuffed Lyon might let his boys loose and make it ugly for the Giants who are getting pretty tired!

Go Blues, Go Friars

Cheers, Sal
