Almanackers immortalised at Victoria Park

by Vin Maskell

Pamela Sherpa, Haiku Bob, John Harms and Vin Maskell are amongst several Almanackers who are part of a permanent sound installation to be officially unveiled at Victoria Park this Sunday afternoon, 4 December.

The sound installation is called For The Love Of It and is located in a walkway of the Sherrin Stand. It is one of four public artworks created for the $7.8million redevelopment of Victoria Park.

New South Wales installation artist Duke Albada recorded the various Almanackers reading their stories and poems and then weaved excerpts through  a total of 269 soundbites from 48 participants.

Listening to For The Love Of It you hear fans talking cheering, reading. You hear coaches, professional and amateur.  You hear the sound of football, and sport in general, being celebrated.

Here at The Footy Almanac we’re keen to hear from other Almanackers who are part of the sound installation.

And here are more details of next Sunday’s celebrations at Victoria Park

If you can’t get along on Sunday, don’t worry: the sound installation runs every day from 7am to 7pm.
