Almanac Teams: Forgotten Brothers (Part 1)

I have based the team on lesser known sibling.
Please feel free to comment I have missed and please feel free to make suggestions even if prior to 1980.

Great research Rodney.
Larry Watson had a hard act to follow::a brother who was playing VFL when aged 15.
Robert Briedis 1976-1978 Nth Melb. 9 games.
Shane Harvey 2002-2004 Ess/Nth M 14 games.
These two could probably not fit the criteria Rodney but:
Stephen Kernahan/David Kernahan 51 games Carlton. Did finish 5th in the B and F so not really forgotten
Also Leigh Matthews brother Kelvin but he also had a decent career with Hawthorn and Geelong.
Wally Matera (the older brother of Peter and Phil) played 24 games for the Eagles in 87/88 then 32 games for Fitzroy in 89/90. Also father of Brandon who played for Gold Coast and Fremantle.
A number of the “forgotten” brothers found their niche in South Australia. Were they all ‘not as good’ or did they want to make their own way. I recall Daryl Schimmelbusch having a couple of games with West Torrens as well. I thought of Kelvin Matthews as well, but upon further research, he was far too successful to qualify as “forgotten”.
Rodney,
Some wonderful “gets” here. You’re kinder than the Coodabeens whom I recall ran a competition for what they titled the “dud brothers”. For those of us who never got close to representing a VFL or AFL team, your reference to forgotten brothers is certainly more appropriate..
Barry Ion (Footscray) brother of Graham. 40 games
Rod MacPherson (Footscray & Brisbane) brother of Steve “Super”. 43 + 7 games.
The McDonalds might be disqualified by virtue of all three having had some prominence. Alex, No.1 draft pick 46 games, Hawthorn, 61 games Collingwood; Anthony 104 games Melbourne including a losing GF; James 251 games Melbourne (including captaincy), 13 games GWS.
Thanks Dan
I don’t really know too much about Larry but did he was most improved in 1976 the year prior to Tim coming in. Was he compared to Tim or had the pressure put on him.
I considered David Kernahan but thought he was a good player. My generation may not be forgotten but he may have forgotten by many. Kelvin played 150 games but people may not know Leiigh had a brother.
Thanks Smokie
Briedis is a great one for 1970s. I have Shane Harvey in Part 2.
Thanks Peter B
I did consider Wally but just my opinion only I thought Wally was not as forgotten or lesser known as others in the team. Definitely lesser known and just my opinion only.
Thanks Daryl
Without knowing why Schimmelbusch was 26 years old and had played 37 games in his last two years.
Thanks Peter Fuller
Think it would be inappropriate from the cheap sates for me to say they are Duds. Good one on Rod MacPherson.
Alex and Anthony both played 100 so I just thought they were not forgotten
