Almanac Racing: Valley highlights

Hmmm….the wisdom of Moonee Valley’s double header escapes me.

Friday night has the race of the weekend – the Manikato – and Saturday’s 10 races need trimming.

I ranted last year about the dilution of the former elite 8 race programme which had lifted Cox Plate Day to the top of the heap and your formguides will show you that Saturday’s offerings are now patchy.

Check this – Friday night has a 955m $100k Handicap and the next day’s schedule includes, yep, a 955m $100k Handicap (inevitably, there are dual acceptors). This is not competing clubs but greed.

The Mile (Saturday, MR7, 1600m, WFAG2) is excellent and the Vase (MR10, 2040m, SW, G2) interesting but the feted match race in the big one had better deliver or it might be an underwhelming day at the old bowl.

I guess you just gotta have faith – invariably these race days manage to provide high drama and excitement. The weather forecast’s a little unkind which means bet selectively and late.

My plan is just the 3 bets at the moment, and none at rich odds.

Friday MR5 No8 Brockhoff

Saturday MR4 No1 Ken’s Dream

Saturday MR8 No9 Second Wave

There’s wriggle room in my wallet for more. Tips please. Good luck!

Comments

  1. Ease up a bit on the hype Crio!

  2. Cowshedend says

You would have filled your bag on Wednesday with Melham’s slaughter of Oceanographer.
Sweating on Angharad getting a run tomorrow, any sort of luck at all last start and it wins.

  3. Enjoying the Valley races tonightand have a bit of a punting buffer and have had a few $$ ew on Japonisme, hoping for a miracle.
On Sat I think the best value all day will be Mordova in the last, worked overtime all the way last run and Pretty Punk made the run look ok with a 3rd at Geelong on Wednesday, should get soft run and will be thereabouts at the end. Apart from that I’m keen of Stratum Star in the mile.
In Adelaide, Boys Get Around Him in the last will go well and cannot get enthused about much else.
Have already had the bet of the day when Dodgie suggested that Sam Jacobs had been all Australian, so a carton has jumped in–second one this year on an all australian bet with big head.

  4. Track tomorrow will be interesting….hot on pace tonight and rail same tomorrow (?)
Did find myself on Rebel Dane tonight at 80’s simply because of track bias and rain arriving. First few races tomorrow will clearly be vital with bias….won’t be betting till half way through the program.
Early tip is Hartnell to beat Winx but first 5 races will be vital tomorrow. Might join in late! ;-)
Doubt she can beat him in his form at this stage but let’s just wait on the track.
    Re-assess tomorrow.

  5. Not happy Jan, Crio, etc. For the second consecutive MV meeting I have invested in Chautauqua and Buffering. I’ve had them together in a Quinella, Duet as well as in an all up, yet did my $$$. Buffering is a great horse, but I have never had any luck with. Too old ? The Sydney Grey, well as Team Hawkes said last night; off to the paddock.

I picked Jameeka a month prior to the Caulfield Cup but due to my aversion to Caulfield did not put any $$ on her. However I got good odds for a place bet on Black Heart Bart so I have made that investment. Let’s see how that pans out.

    Happy Punting,

    Glen!

  6. Beautiful sunny morning. No rain yet. The track’s in the lap of the gods.

  7. Weather update – miserable. Track posted a 5.

  8. Crio, out here in the northern part of Bearbrass there’s a biting Souwester supported by steady rain.

Still happy if Black Heart Bart is placed.

    Glen!

  9. $5.20 Hartnell, amazing

  10. Knock you down at $1.70 Winx.
    Hartnell not on the sheet

  11. now I know ehy

  12. Wow!
She’s an absolute freak of nature!!
Will get back to you when I get over my heart arrhythmia ?

  13. I’ve re evaluated the last, trifectas with So Si bon and Silvera and a few others

  14. Winx, OMG, she is incredible.. I will never forget that race!!

  15. She is a champion. Never seen anything like that in a top drawer Group One. Played with them!
And I was on Hartnell so not talking through my pocket…

  16. Soft win.
    Track held up OK.
Developers could ask bookies to help with future plans….they will happily trash the joint
