Almanac Racing

Very low key here in Melbourne post-Warrnambool. How bloody good was it!? Great to note some Knackers in attendance. C. Down came by my post on Wednesday and P. Flynn offered advice throughout Thursday. His reunion with the great Freeza after the last was a highlight. Lobbed there thinking maybe I’d take a break next year. Left with it inked in my 2018 calendar.

Snuck a quick look at Caulfield’s noms Monday. Decided I’ll head to Port v Footscray at the Borough.

If I was in Adelaide I’d likely be lured to Pecker Park where the Lazarus Bays tackle ladder leading Torrens – but I’d certainly have the paper ready and tranny tuned to Morphettville’s Derby card which is patchy but worth monitoring for a couple of races. The 3yo G1 probably doesn’t deserve the rating but, for the record, we’ll tip 5,13, 1.

The real Group racing heads to Brissie, with the time-honoured Doomben 10,000 as the feature on a card which includes other black type including the Rough Habit Plate, appropriate acknowledgement for the great adopted Banana-bender. Throw away the history books for the 10,000. This year it’s changed from the trad 1350m to 1200m as Qld racing tinkers with its winter programming. Fav and likely winner is Russian Revolution.

Alas, my punting’s still more Russian roulette.

NSW’s main focus is at wealthy Scone where the breeders gather for a rich and pretty good meeting.

Quality ramps up around the traps next week.

Happy to entertain a flutter if anyone’s got a nudge.

Good luck!

  1. You probably would be well advised to steer clear of anything I like at the moment but despite current form I’ll toss out 3 for tomorrow.
Adel Race 5- If Benz runs it will win, magic man destroyed it last week ( and a few others). No rider declared yet so maybe won’t go around.
Melb race 8 Sherrif john Stone_ racing really well from bad gates and can take advantage of a good one if that ends up being the right place to be.
If I bet in the Adel Derby it will be on Savvy Dreams, 3 lengths from Bonneval in NZ Oaks, Unlucky run in Adel after 4 weeks off and missed the Oaks for a 2400 metre Derby, Kiwis generally know what they’re doing when they come to Adel so I reckon is a smokey with a good hope.
Big task for the Bays tomorrow but going well, hoping for the best.
