Almanac (Footy) Poetry – The Rhymer: August Reality

August Reality

We started with dreams for our season
that would deliver us some satisfaction,
something to give us a reason –
hit the finals with some sort of traction.

But somewhere the wheels of our waggon
fell by the side of the trail
and now our faith is a saggin’
– rebuilding’s our new holy grail

One by one our great hopes got injured
and our draft picks failed to impress
and our progress forward is hindered,
by a plan we’ll have to address

The top sides are now buying tickets
for September, and making their plans
while we just look forward to cricket
we wont need a seat in the stands

a new coach and recruits are our wish
that could make all the difference I hear
cos the list that we have now is rubbish
fingers crossed for a better next year.

Ever since I have followed the football
I have lived with a hope for September
but before you can walk you must crawl
and my knees feel they’ve been in a blender
and my team has won bugger-all.
