Almanac 2018 Melbourne Cup Eve Lunch Selections: Another losing year.

It was another excellent Melbourne Cup Eve Lunch yesterday. Great to have Greg Carpenter with us again (thanks Greg) – a riveting chat with insight into the state of racing, followed by an overview of the Spring so far and then a look at the form of the 24 Melbourne Cup runners.

We also welcomed Robbie Griffiths, still bubbling over from Divine Quality’s win on Saturday and enthusiastic about his stable, especially his runners on Thursday which include Oaks chance Collectable, a maiden but has produced some eye-catching runs.

The room found five stand outs for the Cup. A debate followed to discuss the next tier of chances. So here’s the two bets we’re having:

Trifecta:

2 3 5 10 11
2 3 5 10 11 16 22 23 24
Field

First 4:

10 11
2 3 5 10 11
1 2 3 5 8 9 10 11 16 17 21 22 23 24
1 2 3 5 8 9 10 11 16 17 21 22 23 24

Comments

  1. Superb fun and frivolity as usual. It is becoming the outstanding lunch of the Spring Carnival. Greg Carpenter’s recall is extraordinary.

  2. A terrific day. Thanks and congratulations to all.

No luck with our bets this year but I thought we showed great insight and logic in selecting our losers. If there’s ever a runner named Conviviality we’ll put the house on it.

    Cheers, Burkie
