AFLW Round 4 – Western Bulldogs v Brisbane: Hashtags

Western Bulldogs versus Brisbane Lions
Saturday 23 February 2019, 7:15 pm
Whitten Oval, Footscray

The game day was my 46th birthday. As we had a team training the following day, I worked all day. A pop up notice from the AFLW app had come up when I ended my shift after 10pm and I was sad to hear the female pups lost. The win would have been a birthday present so nothing was delivered from the Whitten Oval.

Rehabilitation is required to recover my injured finger properly. I was at the hospital’s waiting room on Monday morning. TV is always on there and I can’t stand it at all. Wifi is available at the pharmacy next door and I can access it at that certain area of the hospital. I opened the Watch AFL app and found out that Fox Footy was broadcasting the replay of the AFLW. Then I watched even though I had  knowledge of the loss. However it was painful to watch the losing game.

Katie Brennan not winning contested marks was unexpected. Her performances at the match was different to what I have seen in the first two matches in the 2019 season. I have read her story in Samantha Lane’s Roar and admire her hardworking. Is she trying too hard or does she need to gain more skills like me?

At the third quarter, Utri couldn’t win a contested mark and the ball was dropped off. But she didn’t give up and chased hard and collected footy. Back up is essential on the footy field I have learned at Dingoes’ trainings. She backed up herself and went on to Plan B. I need to learn from her as well as read through tips created by AFL Victoria.

In the men’s competition last year, the mighty Saints lost heavily to North Melbourne at the Good Friday footy unexpectedly. Then our season fell down. Daughters of the West lost to the new comer North Melbourne a week before and then to the Lions. Losing to the Kangaroos seemed to shock a lot  both teams.

Girls play hard and games are intense ones. Let AFLW stand alone during its season. AFLX is a good format for some areas, like us. But I don’t think we need men’s professional AFLX competition while AFLW is going.

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

Love, passion and pride are seen on the footy that is the biggest part of my life. 1. St Kilda Club member: I am a passionate and crazy Sainter. Just hope we will win the second flag soon, especially after Dogs and Tigers having ended long premiership draughts. 2. The Osaka Dingoes Player and Public Relations Officer: Player number 44 that I chose to honour Stephen Milne with my wish being like a small forward like him. Lenny Hayes' hardworking attitudes are adopted on my trainings and practices. Nick Riewoldt's great plays are in my player audiobook too. 3. Writing: Here on the Almanac and also on the World Footy News. My skills utilise on great footy websites.

  1. Yvette Wroby says

Happy Birthday Yoshi. Yes it was disappointing to see the Dogs okay so poorly. I hope your finger gets better soon and you keep improving your footy. I liked your use of hash tags in your headings. Creative. Thanks for your report

  2. Hi Yvette,

Thanks for your birthday wishes and compliment on this article.

My idea making hashtags popped up, I think on Monday, while thinking how to create this match report.

My finger is much better now although rehabilitations are required. Unfortunately my legs, knees, shoulder and arms are still stiff from the Dingoes’ match on the 16th. Being hard on drills brought such soreness. I need a balance as a 46-year-old guy.

I hope daughters of the West play well next weekend.

    All the best
