AFL Round 10 – Brisbane v Collingwood (Haiku Bob): makeshift moon

makeshift moon
stars cover up
what’s missing

humid night
Ball absorbs
tackle after tackle

sapping heat
Reid resembles something
like a forward

dewy night the ground reflects our shortcomings

banana on the run if only life was that easy

sticky conditions
a few lucky handpasses
hold it together

miskick
Swan goals
in spite of it

heat out of the game
the rose heads
drop

night dew
the length of the season
sinking in

  1. You should have seen the Collingwood-mad in the bar of the All Nations the night of the Footy Town launch. They loved it – as the storm crashed and banged and pelted outside.

  2. Myron Lysenko says

    Hi Rob,
    I love these haiku.
    Especially these two:

dewy night the ground reflects our shortcomings

    heat out of the game
    the rose heads
    drop

I was very happy about last night’s result between Essendon and Carlton. It’s such a great feeling when your team plays badly and still manages to beat a bitter rival.

  3. haikubob says

    thanks Myron.
Hoping Collingwood do a similar thing on Monday. They’ve certainly got the ‘playing badly’ part down pat.
