AFL Indonesia records another important Australian-Indonesian sports diplomacy link.

AFL Indonesia is pleased to record another important Australian-Indonesian sports diplomacy link.

Starting this weekend, a Melbourne district Aussie Rules football club will provide development facilities for two outstanding members of Indonesia’s indigenous national team, the AFL Indonesia Garudas.

Tim Hakfoort, Vice President of the Rosebud Football Netball Club, which plays in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, welcomed two of AFL Indonesia’s Borneo Bears Football Club‘s finest footballers, Timboel Kukuh and Gilang, back to Australia. Both had played for Indonesia in the 2017 AFL International Cup in Melbourne last August and, through the great support of Frankston Football Club General Manager Gary Buckenara, had acclimatised through training with local clubs.

Tim, former President of the Jakarta Bintangs Football Club and founding President of AFL Indonesia, said the lads – both hailing from Balikpapan in East Kalimantan – will be playing their first game with “the Buds” reserves from 12-noon, Saturday 7 July at Olympic Park Reserve, 193 Eastbourne Road, Rosebud.

AFL Indonesia was established in 2009 under the auspices of the Australian
Football League as the governing body of Australian Rules football in the
Republic of Indonesia. Its stakeholders include the Jakarta Bintangs AFC,
Borneo Bears FC, Bali Geckos Aussie Rules Football Club, the AFL Indonesia
Garudas national team, Indokick Clinics and the associated
Indonesia-Australia 7/9s, Krakatoas Football Club, in Melbourne.

Nice bit of news, good luck to the lads. Mate of mine was involved with cricket in Indonesia until recently, but also kept up with footy over there – sounds like things are going ok!
