AFL 2015 in review

It was another amazing season for the AFL in 2015 – so let’s cast our mind to what occurred for all the 18 teams:

Adelaide were inspiring, Walshy will forever be in their hearts
With Pyke now at the helm, the Crows will still play a big part

Brisbane were disappointing, at one stage losing 11 in a row
But they unearthed some classy youngsters, who showed that they can go

Carlton won the wooden spoon and duly finished last
With SOS managing their list though, they’ll climb the ladder fast

The Magpies started 8 and 3 then wobbled down the slope
With Adams, Treloar, Aish, Frost and Crisp there’s still plenty of scope

The Bombers fell apart this year, and were shaky and unsturdy
It took a torrid toll on all, and it cost the job of Hirdy

The Dockers had the purple haze, winning their 1st minor premiership title
No ultimate prize this time but surely in future there’ll be no denial

The Cats had their moments, and farewelled some ageing stars
But now they have some Paddy power, they’ll speed along like a sports car

Gold Coast promised so much yet Rocket couldn’t get them to launch
When Gazza wasn’t playing the Suns sadly mostly got scorched

The Giants took huge strides, Cameron’s kids played as a team
If they can retain them all long term, they will surely brightly beam

The Hawks again reigned supreme, a three-peat was secured
Can anyone stop this juggernaut, as four in a row we can’t endure

Melbourne showed improvement, Roosy’s disciples working hard
And a young man called Hogan was the NAB AFL rising star

North Melbourne made the prelim for the 2nd consecutive year
As Boomer passed 400, and Tucky’s record is so very near

Port Adelaide were frustrating, failing to reach their previous heights
Hopefully in 2016 the Power switches on and reaches full flight

Richmond turned back the clock, channeling the spirit of ’74
But when it came to the finals they only whimpered and never roared

The Saints showed positive signs, led by the ever courageous Roo
Richo’s lads are stepping up, angelic through and through

Sydney were always in the contest, but never quite hit the mark
And with no Buddy in the finals, they didn’t have that fire or spark

The West Coast Eagles under Simmo were a joy to watch and play
And may reverse the result next year on the next Grand Final day

Possibly the best story were the Bulldogs from Melbourne’s west
Can they go further in 2016 and be Victoria’s best?

The new TV was brought about for a cool two billion and a half
7, Fox and Telstra won the bid but who gets the last laugh?

So that was the year that went by for 2015 aussie rules
In 2016 who will be kings and who will end up the fools?

About Brent May

A lifelong fan of Essendon and the Melbourne Storm. Having spent 21 years in a quiet country town just outside Ballarat and 15 years in the South East of South Australia in Mount Gambier (half way between Adelaide and Melbourne) he now resides in tropical Brisbane where a winter's day is still above 10 degrees. You can't take the Victorian out of the boy and he's about ready to don the Lions colours but not the Broncos (yet!).
