A little more

deep in the last term –
when little more can be done
we do a little more

my heart beats –
the ball falls
from his arms

Elliot’s heroics –
a reminder
I’m not a child

sky bereft
of blue how difficult
some goals are

overcast Beams making something out of nothing

clouds come and go Swan always here

evening damp spots of floodlight slide over the stream of bodies

dying seconds –
we keep our enemies
close

  1. That was a good win, HB.

    Marvellous writing.

Superb stuff. The Pies just seem to be able to find a goal when they look gone. e.g. vs. Essendon, Geelong and now West Coast this year (as well as 2011 Prelim & 2010 Drawn GF). Could be very handy in a tight year.

  3. Wonderful stuff HB. You capture the feel of a great contest perfectly.
I would only have to change the names to thoroughly enjoy it.
By the by, can any of the Pies poets tell me how I might get to read the Floreat Pica summary of the game. I did a web search, but there seems no public access. Any ideas of where and how to read it?

    thanks guys.

g’day Peter – the Floreat Pica match report gets posted here every week, although I must admit I can’t see this week’s report by ‘Rub’ Scully – not sure what’s happened there. Will follow up.

    cheers,

    hb.

  5. HB,

    Another classic piece.

As I head off for a well-earned holiday (well I think it is well earned), the image of Swanny always there is very reassuring.

Our kids are standing up to some serious heat – how good was Elliott? And we blood another this week -young Mooney.

    Great stuff.
