  1. Peter Flynn says:

    Thanks Damo,

How many did Lillee and Thommo start to run for in the chaos of ’75?

  2. Damo Balassone says:

    Good question.

9/233 and they took it to 274 falling 17 runs short of Lloyd-inspired Windies score.

    Here is scorecard:

  3. John Butler says:

DB, you’ve got me in. I’ll have a stab.

    1) My guess would be Ponting, Gilchrist and McGrath.

    3} Ponting & McGrath

    9) Wasim Akram & Inzaman-Ul-Huq. Though I thought Moin Khan might have played in 2 also.

    11) Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, Aravinda De Silva, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist

    14) Kapil Dev

The rest I’d have to cheat.

  4. John Butler says:

Oh, and Q13 would be South Africa & New Zealand.

  5. Damo Balassone says:

John, absolutely brilliant. And you are correct on Moin Khan too.

  6. John Butler says:

DB, took me so long to nut some of those out I’ll quit while I’m ahead. :)

  7. This quiz is causing more excitement than the World Cup itself.

  8. John Butler says:

That’s only because our TV networks have chosen to hide it away Gigs.

Plenty of excitement on the sub-continent. :)

  9. Damo Balassone says:

I reckon it’s the dream final. The Great Murali departing vs. The Little Master in search of his 100th ton. The sub-continent in raptures.

But it shouldn’t have taken 42 days and 666 games to get there.

  10. Dan Crane says:

Q7 – is it almighty BEEFY?

    Q8 – Botham, Gooch, Lamb (1979 and 1992)

No cheating here – would love to see if i’m close……

shame about NZ not getting through, i now no longer care about cricket…..ok just a little

  11. Damo Balassone says:

    Dan, very close…

    8. Botham, Lamb, De Freitas

    Damien
I agree with John B about Q9 (Inzi, Akram AND Moin Khan: 2 finals for Pakistan).

Of the ones that no answers have been posted for yet:
Q2: besides Ponting, Gilchrist and McGrath, Steve Waugh, Hayden and Symonds won it twice for Australia. Q4: Can only find 5 Windies players who won it twice: Deryck Murray, Greenidge, Lloyd, IVA & Andy Roberts. Your sixth is? Q5: The last four of my previous list played in 3 finals for WI. Q6: Before Saturday, Jayasuriya, Vaas and Murali had played in 2 finals for SL. Q15: Highest score in a final was Viv (138* in 79), then Ponting (140 in 03), but did Gilchrist make 149 in 07?

  13. Damian Balassone says:

Sorry Tony, almost forgot to post answers in their entirety. You are almost spot on with all your responses: the other West Indian to win 2 World Cups was Kallicharran. See below:

By the by, what a wonderful final that captured the imagination of 1.5 billion people in the Indian sub-continent. This is more than the population of Europe and South America combined (does that mean we can call cricket the World Game?).
