IT was tight all day at Lathlain Park  so it was no surprise that the final, and winning goal, sailed through with just a few seconds left on the clock. It looked likely that Perth would make it a four-from-four when Christian Eyres took a strong mark between wing and half back with Perth four points ahead. Eyres tried to kill a little time by stretching out a cramp, the umpire called play on and Eyres’ kick was smothered by East Fremantle’s Ryan Lester-Smith. The Sharks kicked to the goal square where Sean Henson was awarded a mark he quite clearly didn’t take and kicked the winning goal. Lester-Smith kicked three goals (one accidental) as did Brad Dick, while midfielders Brad Dalziell, Mark McGough, Jayden Schofield, Richard Hadley and Rory O’Brien were damaging players for the Sharks. Daniel Murray kicked four goals in a mighty effort for Perth, Brennan Stack kicked three and was always dangerous, Julian Jacobs was strong at the clearances, Fraser McInnes marked strongly and Michael Florio ran hard and used the ball well.

East Fremantle 15.18 (108) Perth 16.10 (106)

In the Friday night game Claremont won easily over Subiaco but might have paid a price with injuries to Luke Blackwell, Alex Siivagni, Mark Seaby and Jack Bradshaw. The Lions didn’t score a goal in the first half. Jake Murphy was outstanding for the Tigers along with Byron Schammer. Jason Bristow battled in out for the Lions.

Claremont 13.9 (87) Subiaco 4.9 (33)

West Perth kicked 10 goals to three in the second half and beat Peel by 58 points at Arena Joondalup. Rohan Kerr had his best game for the Falcons kicking six goals while Mark Hutchings and Matt Guadagnin dominated in the midfield. Peter Faulks was again good in defence for Peel and Marlon Motlop also played well.

West Perth 17.13 (115) Peel 8.9 (57)

It was a strange kind of thriller at Bassendean where Swan Districts found it hard to shake off a plucky South Fremantle before recording a 21-point victory. The Bulldogs got within nine points during a fascinating tight last quarter. Kirk Ugle kicked five goals for Swans (in took his career tally to five), Tony Notte was effective in various roles, Dayle Garlett kicked brilliantly, Graham Jetta controlled the backline, Tim Geappen kicked four goals and Wes Lammie was again magnificent in the ruck. Captain Ryan Cook was a good player for South Fremantle and Mitchell Carter’s kicking was outstanding.

Swan Districts 15.12 (102) South Fremantle 12.9 (81)
