WAFL Round 4:Sharks have something going

WAFL round four…

EAST FREMANTLE thrashed Subiaco and showed off a range of small forwards that will cause many headaches this season. Things stated in the midfield where Cam Symonds controlled the ruck and provided opportunities for Mark McGough, Rory O’Brien, Sean Henson and Daniel Kerr. When the ball went into the forward line Ryan Lester-Smith (four goals), Josh Simpson (four), Mitch Boyle (four) and Max Duffy (three) came up with all sorts of ways of putting the ball through the middle. These included a long-range leg break from Lester-Smith, incredibly subtle baulks from Simpson and a Steve Johnson-Tom Hawkins-2011 Grand Final sneaky effort from Duffy courtesy of big man Fraser McDougall. Jason Bristow and Chris Deluca battled hard for the Lions.

East Fremantle 25.11 (161) Subiaco 14.8 (92)

Perth remain undefeated after giving up a big lead and snatching it back in the closing moments against Swan Districts at Bassendean. Brennan Stack kicked four goals for the Demons, Ash Smith was dynamic in defence and Paul Bevan had another good game. Ruckman Wes Lammie helped get Swans back into the game and Lance Daly kicked four goals.

Perth 15.13 (103) Swan Districts 14.17 (101)

Alex Silvagni and Luke Blackwell were stars in Claremont’s 54-point demolition of East Perth at Leederville. Jack Bradshaw kicked five goals for the Tigers and Anton Hamp four. Brendan Lee was a strong player for the Royals and Josh Smith kicked three goals.

Claremont 19.15 (129) East Perth 11.9 (75)

In the Friday night game West Perth held on to beat South Fremantle by three points at Fremantle Oval. Mark Hutchings was brilliant in the midfield and Matthew Johnson kicked three goals for the Falcons. Kris Miller showed his worth in the midfield for the Bulldogs and ruckman Sean Tighe was another good game.

The ladder: Claremont, West Perth, Perth 12; East Fremantle 8; Swan Districts Subiaco, East Perth 4; Peel, South Fremantle 0.
