WAFL Round 22: Put away the slide rule the four is set

WAFL round 22

East Fremantle needed to beat Swan Districts at home on Saturday to put an end to any speculation about their place in the finals. When dynamic Swans Blake Boekhurst and Tallen Ames went down early in the first quarter the assignment for the Sharks became easier. Two beautiful goals early in the second quarter by Brock O’Brien set the scene and while Swans battled on the result was never in doubt. The other O’Brien, Rory, was strong in the midfield, Boston Williamson put in a dashing display that included three goals, big man James Bristow did some good things and Andrew Stephen was strong in defence. Ryan Davis hardly had a break in a magnificent effort for Swan Districts, Anthony Stephens used the ball well and Nathan Blakely worked hard in the ruck until injured late in the third quarter.

East Fremantle 18.14 (122) Swan Districts 9.6 (60)

On Friday night second team Subiaco went down to the late surging South Fremantle at Fremantle Oval and appear to be staggering into the finals. Ben Saunders kicked five goals for the Bulldogs and is the WAFL’s leading goal scorer, Ashton Hams and Haiden Schloithe were again outstanding and defenders Dylan Ross and Jarrod Parry were good players. Kyal Horsley and Jason Bristow were good in the midfield for the Lions.

South Fremantle 15.9 (99) Subiaco 12.13 (85)

The other late surger Claremont held on to beat West Perth by a goal at the Showgrounds. Luke Blackwell was sensational for the Tigers along with Ryan Neates and impressive youngster Jordan McAllister again played well. Aaron Black led West Perth’s comeback and was strong all day and Marcus Adams was again good in the back line.

Claremont 8.6 (54) West Perth 6.12 (48)

Down in Mandurah East Perth thrashed Peel who didn’t score a goal in the first half. Craig Wulff and Brendan Lee were again outstanding for the Royals, Paul Johnson won the ruck duel and kicked three goals while Josh Smith kicked four goals. Brendan Jones and Anthony Morabito were good for the Peel and Clancee Pearce had his best game of the year.

East Perth 14.21 (105) Peel 5.9 (39)
