Almanac Rugby League – State of Origin: Game 1, 2017 – “This is not good”

Three times every year, in Big Chill fashion, old uni mates of mine gather, not for the Michigan game, but for State of Origin. It has been a happy decade. But, with no JT and GI and others, and the small sequoia Fifita and his large teammates running rampage, things got a little tougher. Jenny May Wesche has a cat’s bum mouth – which is rare for her. I. Lamb (Australia) who is The People’s Hero and has played for Queensland on Lang Park (Universities side) in the curtain-raiser to an Origin match is as concerned as I have ever seen him. Susan ‘Zot’ Masotti is comparing Aldi and Coles prices.

I watched with a crew of Almanckers and the visiting Errol Leslie Smythe at the North Fitzroy Arms.

It was a disaster.

Only a disaster to some. At last, a strong Blue light has arrived to guide us Roaches from out under the noisy, fuggy fridge, from out under the plastic spoons in the cutlery draw, from out of the shoe cupboard….
