Round 3 – St Kilda v Adelaide: Crows too good for Matt’s Birthday

Saturday, 7 April 2018
7:25 pm
Docklands Stadium, Melbourne

My good friend and mentor Matt invited me to his 40th birthday party, and as always I am happy having drinks and food with him and others.

The game was held while we were having beer, pizza and plates of foods at his favourite pizza, izakaya. I had been to the restaurant a couple times before and love the place too.

I was sitting next to my new friends including footy diehards, but no another Sainter…

Mostly we talked about playing footy at the mighty Dingoes and our daily lives rather than the on going professional footy.

In the third quarter, Abby, Matt’s niece told me the score,  the Saints were seven points down. I hoped we won.

Then I opened Watch AFL app on my phone and Eddie Betts got the footy in their goal square. Unfortunately, I was swearing, closed the app and went back to interesting chats.

Abby updated the score and I was not happy… Meanwhile, I apologised swearing in front of kids. I couldn’t obey my own rule of not dropping  the F-word in front of children.

After the party, we headed off to Matt’s apartment and watched the replay.

Having already got drunk, my tiredness came up. This week, I got up before 5 am twice to practise footy. My sleep these days is short, so I fell in asleep. Maybe knowing the negative outcome made me sleepy…!

I woke up at the third quarter (of the replay) and joined in, but was not willing to watch much. The game was for Matt’s good birthday party. He, and his sister Sue-Anne, was happy with the win.

My wish of being able to learn from my Saints for my playing was postponed again. I am playing my first footy in two weeks now. The fractured finger is no matter. I cannot wait to commence playing footy.

Once again, I will focus on improving my footy skills, and will practise a lot next week.

I wish my boys to  know  I’m passionate about  footy, and I want them to be hungry also. I want to watch the Saints play footy fully for four quarters next week. I can’t waste my money on Watch AFL subscription.

About Yoshihiro Imagawa

A Japanese Saints diehard with huge passions. The Western Bulldogs won the flag in 2016 and Richmond followed in 2017, so why not St Kilda in 2018? Like my St Kilda, I strive and work hard to achieve my life goals both in profession and my private life. Sadly I missed watching footy while my favourite Nick Riewoldt was playing and when St Kilda had Anzac Day clashes in Wellington. But I am excited to be back in Melbourne in July 2018 for two St Kilda matches. Now I am a player for the Osaka Dingoes Footy Club, as well as a public relations officer. My stories of footy in Asia including the Dingoes news can be found on World Footy News.

Thanks Yoshi. Good luck with your first game. And it’s nice to read about your social life and gatherings. Good to have friends.

  2. Thanks Yvette. I look forward to the first footy game in 10 days! Can’t wait. Matt is a great guy giving me positive thoughts. I’m happy to be his friend and play footy with him. Let’s have a hope for the mighty Saints!!
