Riverland Superdogs v Hills

RIVERLAND SUPERDOGS V HILLS

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN AFL MASTERS – ROUND EIGHT

SUNDAY 15th OF JULY 2012, LYRUP OVAL

By Nick Kossatch

The Riverland Superdogs put in its worst effort for the year with a 50-point hiding to a tough Hills team at Lyrup Oval on Sunday.

Coach Shane Healy let his team know all about it at half time describing the performance as ‘lazy and kick-chasing’. Port Adelaide-esque!

The Hills’ on-ball brigade ran and spread with ease and the hosts failed to pick up loose players. Precise delivery to its forwards made the Superdogs look tired and lethargic.

The efforts of burly ruckman cum forward cum defender Peter Hoffmann and the tireless running from the much-shorter Darren Tieste, prevented the home side from more embarrassment.

‘Hoffy’ took numerous strong marks around the ground and Kenny Karpany again cleared the ball from the centre several times.

Birthday boy Shane Hannagan booted a superb goal from the outside of his right foot and Mark Nuemann kicked a long-range major whilst Matthew Clifford was the leading goal-kicker with a pair of six-pointers. These were the only highlights for the local crowd to cheer at.

Peter Aston and the wily Rick Frahn in defence and Hoffmann’s rucking side-kick Shaun Harris performed admirably.

The Riverland team play Souths on Sunday July 29th in Adelaide from 12.30pm the night after the Master’s Australian Football 30 Year Anniversary Celebration held at the Crows Shed.

SCORE: Hills 12.11 (83) d Riverland Superdogs 5.3 (33)
