RIVERLAND SUPERDOGS V EASTS RND 11

OUT-OF-JAIL AS SUPERDOGS WIN BY A POINT. ROUND 11 AFL MASTERS OVER 35’S

The Riverland Superdogs overcame some wayward kicking, poor disposals and an 18-point three-quarter-time deficit to post a fighting one-point win against Easts at Lyrup Oval.

Conditions were windy but it did not deter the large female contingent present for ‘Ladies Day’ under the grand stand. They were oblivious to the fact that their partners laid their bodies on the line.

Jason ‘Mooney’ Bradbrook, for Easts, was a focal point all day with six goals and five behinds. At the other end Nick Kossatch marked it ok but could not kick his way over a haystack!

Peter Aston was as courageous as ever and playing-coach Darren Tieste continued his stellar form, albeit filling in for the opposition. The East Demons played the better football in the third term.

Some positional changes by stand-in coach Shane Healy proved vital. He put Ben Meuret to centre half forward. It was a ‘Malcolm Blight’ master-stroke. Meuret helped set up goals to Andrew Hawkins and Kossatch (who also sprayed three points for the quarter!).

The solidly-built Geoff Cubbin got under the guard of the Easts defenders with telling touches but it was Meuret who nailed the sealer from a Kossatch attempt at goal. The ball, however, scewed onto the chest of ‘Big Ben.’

Ruckman Peter Hoffmann was a worhorse all game yet again and Hawkins played a fine half forward flanker’s game.

The Superdogs travel to the Mid North on Sunday, August 29th to play against Mid North to complete the AFL Masters season
