Rd 4 2012 FEARLESS – Bad injuries weekend. A couple of broken legs etc…

Ross Lyon returned to Etihad Stadium as the Fremantle coach on Friday night against the Saints. The boos were there from the St.Kilda faithful but Ross remained calm enough to plot a purple victory. Stephen Hill played his first blinder in Melbourne after promising for a while. A tight contest all night saw the Dockers prevail by 13.

Carlton played another unbeaten team in Essendon. The Blues entered the game warm favourites but did the opposite to what won them the game against the Pies. Injuries for both clubs, but the Bombers pressured well all day. Dyson Heppell looks like Hansel from Zoolander, Mitch Robinson Vyvyan from The Young Ones. Crameri 5.6

In the words of William Shakespeare, the Malthouse-Buckley-McGuire war of words was much ado about nothing. Surprise – Collingwood beats Port and things return to normal. Port was again competitive but not good enough to win. Cloke–led Pies by 4 goals. Coach Buckley smiles. Port’s Robbie Gray’s leg injury nasty, a season ender.

Issy Anygood kicked his first AFL goal. That might be the only thing remembered from Adelaide’s home game against the GWS. As a rugby league player Issy looked like he had some skills for AFL but it will take time. Adelaide’s Rory Sloane provided the other big highlight with a magnificent running goal in the wet. Crows by 46pts.

That two top of the ladder teams kicked 0.12 to 2.7 at half time was indicative of the impact the pre-game rains had before the Eagles and the Hawks took to Subiaco. Maybe nerves, conditions and defence combined to impact on the game but it wasn’t much to look at. Buddy’s woes were indicative: 1.6 and 7 frees against. WCE by 5pts.

The stupidly named Q-clash took place at the Gabba on Saturday night and was noted for the Gold Coast being competitive for a half. Noticeably the sunny boys melted in the Lions’ grip in the second half, compounded by the return of Johnno Brown’s swagger and 3 goals and injuries to SunnyBoys Ablett and Swallow. Lions by 65pts…

Richmond arguably could draw some confidence from a preseason win at Geelong for its trip there on Sunday. Geelong had other plans on the rebound. A 10 point win by the Cats at home might indicate the closing of the gap between the two teams, but the scores were level in the last qtr until wise heads such as Bartel and Enright prevailed.

Hot, still, humid and wet…as per FEARLESS’ SCG correspondent in Sydney as the Swans played North at the SCG. Missing Goodes and Mumford proved minimal as the Swans set up a match winning lead at qtr time. Gary Rohan’s leg injury was ugly. Luke Parker BOG as the Swans gave the Roos a wet weather footy lesson by 6 goals.

Jim Stynes Memorial game between Melbourne and the Bulldogs started after late afternoon rains. The Demons whose intensity levels were up after half time. Dahlhaus led the Dogs’ charge and the Dogs found goalkickers. Melbourne ok, Dogs better by 21pts. Mitch Clark landing on his head – very lucky to have avoided serious damage.
