Racing: Red Ruler’s my Turnbull tip under the conditions

By Chris Riordan

I’m heading to Flemington with a spring in my step but hopefully a zip on my pocket as I’m keen to look but not commit yet. By tomorrow night we’ll be scouring the doubles boards, but it is a tough meeting which will need careful strategy.

Sydney races, too, will be tempting. Possibly a soft track and fields that lack depth; it might be a good punting proposition.

My early tips for Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington are:

R1   NO WAY!!!

R2   No need to punt yet ( maybe a sniff at Hanks?)

R3  Still just practising. Sigma should give a sight.

R4  Tough race. A.J. Cummings on fireand Miss Darcey might be some value on an improved track.

R5  Need more time on this. I’ve kind of committed to Estee so if she gets a run I’m probably on-board.

R6  Go broke backing these.

R7  Red Ruler under the conditions.

R8  Wait. See how fit Light Fantastic looks. Guess on track bias.

R9  Get out on Royal Discretion.

Comments

  1. Confident Flemington will be Dead 4 and race well (though not sure about the straight race), but Sydney has rain forecast so might be well advised to do a contingency form for Randwick.

  2. BTW, for desperates, D. Dunn looks solid in Jockey Challenge tomorrow.

  3. Too many jumping on Red Ruler for my liking. Yes he’s well weighted but he hasn’t done anything and will start under the odds.
Think El Segundo is going to get to silly odds (already $14 on Betfair) so he’s better value.
Otherwise Red Lord down in the weights is a show again at good odds ($26).

  4. Red Ruler looked the value last night but is going to come up unders for sure. Might be a no bet race. El Segundo is a Moonee Valley horse. Big Mal is on fire and could well be the one. Predatory Pricer has a gear change and great form. If Vigor ( a true Flemington horse) wins this they’ll not see him in the Handicaps. This race can throw up a result, but I’m going cold.
Any mail for the 2yo race? frredman’s is going to be short.
