QWAFL Grand Final – Coorparoo Kings v Yeronga South Brisbane Devils: Ten Lions stars line up in the big one

Ten Lions stars in QWAFL Grand Final

Women’s football is booming in Queensland. 28 senior women’s teams participated in Brisbane-based competitions in 2017. Across the state there are over 50 open age teams. There are over 100 teams in youth competitions.

The impact of the AFLW has been significant, but a vibrant women’s competition has been played in Brisbane since the early 2000s.

This Sunday (Aug 27) AFL Queensland will host grand finals in three divisions of open age women’s football, with the highlight being the 3.15pm clash between Coorparoo Kings and Yeronga-South Brisbane Devils (Venue – Leyson Park, Yeronga).

The Grand Final will be streamed live (www.aflq.com.au) and live scores and stats will be available via the AFLQ Scores app (Apple and android). These stats will be provided by www.interchanger.com.au. Brisbane Junior finals scores will also be broadcast live via the app.

The Bond University QWAFL Grand Final will be a treat for AFLW fans, with up to ten members of the 2017 Brisbane Lions team – including six All-Australians – tipped to play. Coorparoo Kings boast current Lions captain Emma Zielke, Brittany Gibson, Jessica Wuetschner, Ally Anderson and Kate Deegan, while the Yeronga-South Brisbane Devils line-up includes Sam Virgo, Emily Bates, Sabrina Frederick-Traub, Kate McCarthy and Jade Ransfield.

Broadbeach and Kedron open the day in the QWFA Division 2 decider at 10:45am, Bond University take on Yeronga-South Brisbane in QWFA Division 1 at 1:00pm.

AFL Queensland State Football Operations Manager, Barry Gibson, said the first all-women’s grand final day was an historic occasion.

“The growth and standing of women’s footy has commanded an occasion where our female participants are the showpiece.”

“We are extremely fortunate to have so many of our Lions AFLW players in action in the Bond University QWAFL game.”

Last Sunday Yeronga-South Brisbane defeated the Wilston Grange Gorillas in the QWAFL Preliminary Final.

Interchanger provided stats for that game. See below for examples of the information you will see live on the AFLQ Scores app from 3.15pm tomorrow.
