Premier Cricket Round 12 Preview

Five rounds of the 2011/12 Premier Cricket Home & Away season remain commencing with Round 12, a two day fixture to be played over the next two Saturdays (14 & 21 January).

MATCH OF THE ROUND

Melbourne (2nd) 37pts v Geelong (5th) 31 pts @ The Albert Ground Melbourne

2011/12 MCC LLWWWWDWWLW G’long WWLLLDDWWWW

Last time they met: PC Quarter Final 2010/11 Sat 12 & Sun 13 March 2011 @ Geelong Cricket Ground

G’long 5/429 (Elliot 150, Butterworth 110no, Hill 2/66) def MCC 321 (Dart 114, Muller 5/103)

Two teams in terrific form, Geelong unbeaten in their last four outings, the Dees have won seven of their last nine. The Cats ended reigning premier Melbourne’s 2010/11 campaign with a comfortable victory in the first week of last seasons finals, their second victory over the MCC in as many weeks. Melbourne are the fourth heaviest scoring team in the comp and have 3 batsmen (Kent 481, Cooper 349 and Dart 309) with 300 or more runs in 2011/12, Geelong has one Hayden Butterworth (300). It’s been a disappointing 2011/12 thus far for TS Elliot scoring 133 runs @ 13.3. Don’t be surprised to see him break out of his slump this weekend, he’s scored 373 runs in his previous four innings against the MCC. Geelong has the fifth stingiest attack but won’t get any assistance from the Albert “Freeway”. Cooper, Kent, Dart & Hill at the Albert might be a bit too much for the Cat attack to contain. TIP: Melbourne in a close one, but don’t discount Geelong

St Kilda (10th) 21pts v Footscray Edgewater (12th) 19pts @ Junction Oval St Kilda

2011/12 StK LWLLLWDLDWW F’scray Edge WLLDWWDLDWL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ M G Hughes Oval Footscray

St Kilda 8/270 dec (Rummans 100, Robertson 4/71) & 1/16 def FECC 119 (Dean 38, Mueller 7/31) & 166 (Hollins 43, Mueller 5/35)

The Saints are making a charge for the finals having won their previous two games convincingly. Handscomb, Forbes and Rummans look dangerous with the willow and the bowlers are taking wickets Last weeks loss to the Hawks may have ended the Dogs finals chances for 11/12. Would need a massive form reversal to see them taking the points, unfortunately I can’t see it happening. TIP: St Kilda

Prahran (3rd) 34pts v Melbourne University (16th) 6pts @ Toorak Park Prahran

2011/12 P’ran TWWWWLDWDWW Melb Uni LLLWLLDLLTL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ University Main Oval

P’ran 238 (Schlittler 92, Simpson 4/42) & 5/60 (Murphy 31no, Kennedy 4/30) def Melb Uni 159 (Wright48, McGain 6/54)

Prahran took out the Premier Cricket T20 competition on Wednesday night. Congratulations Two Blues. They’ll follow that success with a comfortable win against the Students. TIP: Prahran

 Frankston Peninsula (4th) 31pts v Northcote (15th) 10pts @ AH Butler Oval Frankston

2011/12 FP WWLWLWDWDLW N’cote LLLLWWDLDLL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Bill Lawry Oval Northcote

F Pen 6/168 (Dew 62, Doropoulos 2/35) def N’cote 167 (Doropoulos 60, Groves 4/30)

Jewell, Hillard & Chasemore scored half centuries last week and Boland, Miller and Benbow each took 3 wickets in a good team effort. The Dragons are struggling with bat and ball. TIP: Frankston Peninsula

Ringwood (14th) 16pts v Casey South Melbourne (11th) 21pts @ Russell Lucas Oval Ringwood

2011/12 R’wood WLLLLWDLLLW CSM TLWLLLDDWWW

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Casey Fields #4 Cranbourne

CSM 6/252 (Best 105, Gale 4/50) def R’wood 9/250 dec (Holland 50, Freitag 2/38)

Casey managed to get over the line last week without Clive Rose contributing (0/39 and a second ball duck). I can’t see the Ryder favourite missing out two weeks in a row. Ringwood’s win at Camberwell was their first victory in two months, and are a real chance to go back to back. Casey need the points to stay in contention and should win their fourth in a row. TIP: Casey South Melbourne

Dandenong (7th) 27pts v Camberwell Magpies (8th ) 26pts @ Shepley Oval Dandenong

2011/12 D’nong WWWLWLDWDLW C’well LWWDLWDWLWL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Camberwell Sports Ground

D’nong 189 (Dempsey 108, Fekete 7/66) def C’well 174 (McClean 48, Butterfield 4/52)

The Panthers were superb in knocking off the previously unbeaten Blues last weekend, jumping back into the top eight in the process. The Magpies were crushed by the Rams and now face the difficult task of a trip to Shepley Oval. These two sides are separated by one premiership point and one position on the ladder. I don’t fancy Camberwell’s chances. TIP: Dandenong

 Fitzroy Doncaster (9th) 23pts v Calton (1st) 45pts @ Schramms Reserve Doncaster

2011/12 F Don WWWWLLDWDLL Carlton WWWWWWDDWWL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Princes Park #1 Carlton

F Don 6/321 dec (Dickson 87, Dickinson 2/36) drew with Carlton 7/273 (Pilon 80, Duckworth 3/78)

Carlton dropped their first game of the season last week going down to bogey side Dandy. I wouldn’t be reaching for the antacid yet. Fitzroy Donny were smacked by the Cats, the final losing margin (64 runs) probably flattered them as they were dispatched in just under 36 overs. Mash returned last week and the Lions need him firing. They’ll need something special to roll the Blues. TIP: Carlton

Essendon (13th) 17pts v North Melbourne (18th) 5pts @ Windy Hill Essendon

2011/12 Ess’don WLWWWLDLLLL NM LLLDWLDLDLL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Junction Oval St Kilda

N Melb 293 (Dearing 73, Reid 4/71) def Ess’don 265 (Berger 70, Stevenson 3/82)

Essendon were OK last week. North weren’t.  TIP: Essendon

Hawthorn Monash University (17th) 6pts v Richmond (6th) 30pts @ Monash University #1

2011/12 HMU LLLLLLDLDTW R’mond LWWLWWDWDWL

Last time they met: Round 17 2010/11 Sat 26 February & Sat 5 March 2011 @ Punt Road Oval Richmond

R’mond 8/267 dec (Matarazzo 75, Bird 3/82) & 2/111 (Matarazzo 55, Hewat 2/21) def HMU 194 (Tormey 47, Matarazzo 4/16) & 180 (Black 50, Yeo 4/39)

HMU got on the board and off the bottom last week, Alleyne, Sarna & Entwistle were superb. The Tigers suffered a disappointing loss and slipped to sixth. Richmond has been consistent so expect them to bounce back hard. It won’t be easy as the Hawks confidence will be “sky high” after last weeks success. TIP: Richmond
