Mid-season fever

The week started off good and then spiralled downwards. On Tuesday morning, I woke up feeling sick as a dog and my parents after a short time decided that I shouldn’t go to school. Wednesday I felt worse. My Dad took me to the doctor and what we knew was true. I had the flu. I had never remembered having the flu before and believe me, you don’t want to have it. I have missed so much homework it is not funny. So basically this week, I have lived on stewed apple, hot lemon and honey drinks and watched TV. It hasn’t exactly been the best week of my life.

So come Friday night, I was playing a game on my Dad’s ipad and my Dad came in the front door after an unsuccessful trip with my brother Ed to play tennis, I half-heartedly asked my Dad the score, “Max, we are down by 43 points”. After that statement, my team needed some moral support so I sat down in front of the TV and watched the rest of the game.

The first thing I noticed was the impact of Luke Hodge seemed to have an impact on the hawks physically and mentally. Even me, a diehard hater of Hawthorn had to admire his courage and skill. Even without Buddy, Gunston and Bruest were kicking goals for the hawks and Mitchell and Rioli running rings around the Essendon midfield. Only Jobe Watson had a good first half, 22 disposals help! Jetta got injured but came back on and Hawthorn were cutting through our defence.

The third quarter started with a bang!!! Luke Hodge kicked the opener! But Essendon kicked the next three and looked so much better than the first half. A Dempsey mistake gave Hodge his 4th and a great crumbing goal by Roughead swept the momentum the hawks way. A 12 goal quarter and the best quarter of the match.

The only good thing to come out of the last quarter was that we kept the margin to 94 points. Watson and Gumbleton can hold their heads high, but the rest? Do we have what it takes to make the finals? We have a really tough draw and if we don’t win, we could do the unthinkable, miss the finals.

  1. Hi Max,
Sounds like you could have done with Luke Hodge in the back and red jumper.
