shadowy light –
talk in the stands turns
to sacking the coach
racing clouds
a chain of handpasses
falls apart
dropped mark –
distant memory of how it feels
to hold a Sherrin
clouds full of rain –
this could well end up
in tears
darker than I thought –
a goal to the arch rival
ices the game
big upset
not counting on
such a moon
a magpie
alone on a branch –
how much you’ll be missed
About rob scott
Rob Scott (aka Haiku Bob) is a peripatetic haiku poet who calls Victoria Park home. He writes haiku in between teaching whisky and drinking English, or something like that.
It’s been a sad week all round for Pies fans.
I’m almost lost for words – which makes me even more grateful for haiku!
The last haiku in this sequence is dedicated to Lou Richards, who I adored as a child. It is a bit of a metaphor, as magpies are renowned for having life partners. It is rare that you see a magpie alone. The partner is never far away. Except for now. RIP Louie.
HB.
This Carlton tragic feels your pain

Hooroo Lou, and thank you
Time to study haiku
Beautifully expressed HB. Lou was such a huge part of our footy childhoods, his aura, lingo and sense of humour as well as his devotion to Collingwood will never be forgotten.
As for the current custodians – the unknowns are revealing themselves -painfully.
Thanks very much, HB.
Fine words, fine absence of words.
Can they be unknown if they’re revealed?
HB, I think the bad times bring out the best in you.
Cheers (for Blues fans, anyway)
HB – our footy clubs pick us up and slam us down again. The bastards.
