Haiku Bob – Round 18 – laid up on the wing

Taking my lead this week, from E. regnan’s superb match report, dreaming The Drones’ magnificent track, Shark Fin Blues.

sitting in the stands

watching the rookie’s shadow

stretch

sun-drenched ‘G

Demons licking around

our ankles

the out-of-sorts captain

laid up on the wing

dying of thirst

game in the balance ~

I keep one eye

on the horizon

all young

all willing

but what were you expecting to find?

a harpoon’s shot

is short and wide

they kick the sealer

best not watch ~

they come for us goal by goal

til the whole ship sinks

6th straight loss ~

nothing but the sea and sky

remain
