Haiku Bob – Round 17: ironing out the wrinkles

50th birthday –

my team the whole day

ironing out the wrinkles

thick cloud

the ball buries itself

in the full-forward’s chest

rain starts to fall

how softly

we give up the lead

winter rain –

fumble after fumble

leads to a goal

half-time deficit

I give myself

a good talking to

heavy rain –

nobody in the crowd notices

the lack of a game plan

waning moon

we manage to cling

to a narrow lead

Haiku Bob will join us for lunch with Ben Robbins on Friday. Hopefully he’ll bring a couple of recent books – two of his own, and one he is featured in. MORE ABOUT THE LUNCH HERE

    Happy Birthday Old Mucker.

I have taken over a subject at short notice at the uni so roast in Kyneton is off unfortunately.

Harmy, you should invite HB to do a reading or two at the lunch. Good promo for his books.

  2. Beautiful HB. I’ve noticed that since I turned 50 a few years back I talk to myself a whole lot more.

    Happy birthday.

  3. Love the way haiku showcases the multiple meanings of words – “soft” rain/”soft” giving up.
Hope you don’t have much to high coo about on Sunday.

    Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Flynny – There will always be another roast.

Dips – The talking is fine. But be wary of advice.

PB – You’re right. It’s just word play.

    See you at the lunch!

At half time we gave our selves a good talking to as son had purchased open air tickets and we left the brolly in the car so it was going to be a wet wait for the bus and walk through the flooded car park (as it turned out to be!) with 4 and 7 yo grand kids. But at least we won!
    Love your work
