General Sport: Supporter lobby group starts up

By Adam Muyt

Roy Masters has written a piece in today’s SMH (7 November) on a newly formed lobby group, Sports Supporters Australia.  Masters likens it to an RACV or NRMA for sports lovers and a quick squiz through its website heightens the comparison.

This group is definitely ‘serious’, structured around a membership base and board, and complete with (obligatory?) commercial sponsorships.   Whether it’s lobbying sports administrators for better deals for fans, those in sports bureaucracies for better resources or politicians over issues such as sports broadcasting syphoning rules, SSA states it wants to be the voice for sports fans after better deals.

  1. Adam,
Did you hear today of the passing of Fitzroy’s last surviving Premiership player from 1944?
