The Victorian view.
In potentially the most important match in the game’s illustrious history, the world champion Geelong Cats will clash with Australia’s biggest sporting club the Collingwood Football Club tonight at the greatest stadium in the world, the mighty MCG.
With a potential world wide audience of seven billion people potentially tuned into this potential Grand Final preview, it promises to be many more times enthralling than the soccer world cup being played in South America some time this year.
The world’s best footballer, Gary Ablett jnr, is once again leading the Cats towards potential September glory. Their mix of players who can kick, mark, handball and tackle is unmatched by any other football team in the universe.
But The Magpie Army threatens to derail this colossus of a team with its range of superstars including Heath Shaw, Ben Reid, Ben Johnson, Harry O’Brien, Nick Maxwell, Sharrod Wellingham, Luke Ball, Dane Swan, Alan Toovey, Shane O’Bree, Travis Cloke, Alan Didak, Dayne Beams, Brent Macaffer, Leon Davis, Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas, Nathan Brown, Chris Dawes, Steele Sidebottom, Cameron Wood, Tarkyn Lockyer, Josh Fraser and John Anthony.
Already the Pies have set a world record for most goalkickers per game, mixing the daring of Errol Flynn and the adventure of Indiana Jones with the bravery of the ANZACs into a potent mix that has lit up the hearts and minds of every Australian.
This match promises to be a classic. A see-sawing battle between the best of the best, it is too hard to pick a winner. Collingwood by 3 points.
The South Australian view.
Geelong and Collingwood meet at the MCG tonight in a match that should make okay viewing. But the real issue that is on the minds of football followers, is Adelaide’s injury worries being compounded by the suspension this week of key Crows Bernie Vince and Graham Johncock. This lack of discipline in seemingly endemic through the Crows this year, and each scandal only escalates the pressure on Super Coach Neil Craig and his superb mix of young men who are making the community better with every thing they do.
The Western Australian view.
The typically insular Victorian media are building up tonight’s Geelong versus Collingwood match as some sort of blockbuster. Well, these Victorians need to get out a bit, and realise nothing comes close to the intensity of the derbies between the high-flying premiership favourites, the Fremantle Dockers, and the AFL club with the most premierships, the West Coast Eagles. They can have their petty little suburban stoushes, give us a whole state at war!
The New South Wales view.
Nathan Buckley leads the Collingwod Magpies against Harry Ablett’s Geelong Team tonight in Melbourne in the Aussie Rules League tonight. It should be a match of four quarters played between two teams of eighteen with an oval shaped ball on a big ground somewhere.
The Queensland view.
Boom Gold Coast recruit Gary Ablett jnr plays one of his final games against AFL powerhouse Collingwood tonight. In what is sure to be a sad occasion for the balding captain of the Gold Coast Don’t-Have-A-Nickname-Yets, he will once again prove why he sees the future is drenched in sunshine, as the temperature dips below ten degrees throughout the match.

NSW won’t even mention it – they are currently obsessing about State of Origin!
