Footballs for FIDA

Who doesn’t love kicking around a new footy, a brand new shiney footy? The FIDA footballers love playing footy but they don’t often get to train or play matches with good new footballs.

FIDA, the Football Integration Development Association,  is a league for footballers with intellectual disabilities. Co- founded 24 years by Peter Ryan, a former Williamstown player and  Hawthorn recruiting officer, the league now has 17 teams across Victoria. That’s 500 players who would  love to be able to train and  play with new footballs.

Col Newcombe, a  volunteer FIDA umpire, has just  kicked off the Footballs for FIDA campaign. It has already picked up donations from  St Kilda Football Club, the Northern Blues, local sporting clubs and sports shops. And footy fans in general. You’ll find more details on the Footballs for FIDA Facebook page. You can also contact Col directly on  9370 8440 or 0409 858 092 or  [email protected].  All donations are tax deductible.

In other FIDA news, there’s an interstate exhibition game between the Williamstown FIDA teams and  teams from Fremantle CBC next Sunday  July 14. Fearon Reserve, Williamstown.

Then, on 27 and 28 July, there’s a national carnival in Parkville. Pop it in your diary.
