David Bridie’s song ‘The Deserters’

Pour yourself a glass of Rockford Basket Press, gather your children around you, and watch this.

The Deserters Lyrics

David Bridie

yeah it’s broken, the wheel’s still turning
it’s turning slowly in the sky
we go out searching, we go out climbing
we give everything a try
everybody needs some beauty
some reassurance, reassurance
you can tell so much about a place by the way they treat their own
the way they treat their own deserters
undone thinking this way undone
east Richmond station go through the backstreets
neath the cold and the rain
we go out searching we go down fighting
yeah we give everything a try
everybody needs some beauty
some reassurance, reassurance
you can tell so much about a place by the way they treat their own
the way they treat their own deserters
undone thinking this way undone

  1. You idiot….show you children this clip…

  2. That was only highlights of the second quarter Mulcaster.

Apparently ‘Charlie” had a big last quarter and ‘kicked arse’ enforcing the Septics to evoke the mercy rule and get permission to leave the field.

This was quite a good thing as I was in the next draft in 1972.

  3. First time the word draft has been used in that sense on this site.

  4. Who plays the Oboe on this track?

  5. marie mcmillan played the oboe

  6. David

Congratulations on a wonderful song …and please give my warmest regards to Ms McMillian
I thought it must have been Diana Doherty.
    What album is this on?
    The film clip is brilliant.

  7. I don’t know what it is with this haunting song – but it brings me to tears every listen. It touches something deep inside and I have no idea why. A masterpiece! Thankyou Davi..
