Crio’s Racing: Punt vs the Shopping

I need the work and the money and really like my job at the races. So I’ll be at the Valley on Friday night and also at Flemington on Saturday – but I struggle to mount a case for others to do likewise. Perhaps the fine forecast might encourage a night on the lawns or a Christmas drink with friends on Friday – not really a punt – but Saturday is an especially hard sell.

If you are committed to a weekly try, maybe sneak a peek at the Sydney card as you get carted around shopping malls. Warwick Farm’s Villiers Stakes meeting is not too bad, with the feature race (SR6, 1600m) having many chances – very wide in a Quaddy and ideal for a trifecta flutter. Include 1,3,6,8,10,14. Young C. Schofield is the gun claimer up there now so be sure to look to his mounts when he gets some “off”.  If you want to try a Sydney Quaddie, maybe take Rarified/Field/ 1,2,4/include 3+4 in a raffle.

At Flemington it will be a very quiet day. Quaddy pointers for starters are:

Field(though fav, 13, a risk)/1,3,5/2,4,5/2,3,4

As poor an excuse for disposable income as the punt may be, I doubt the sorry souls hustling and harrying at Westfield, North/Southland, Knifepoint and Chaddy will find much better value on their carpark and kids excursions. Come to think of it, might be worth a dabble to soothe the soul!

Good luck.

  1. love the heading given to this…makes it a no brainer and will sustain me throughout Saturday’s meeting. Probably prefer to be puntin from a cricket match or a pub, but at least I won’t be shopping for anything other than “overs”!

  2. John Butler says

Makes the choice logical doesn’t it Crio? :)

  3. Come on guys the bowling green and a beer after will win any time (anything but shopping)

  4. Good atmosphere at the Valley tonight. Perfect weather for what Bill Lawry would describe as a “happy crowd”. No favs but plenty of well backed runners. Barrier 1 dominant and then D.Dunn came down the outside in the last. Some shocking rides, including T. rodder who scared patrons in the old North Hill as she prospected the car park on a shortie. TC rang with the tip for Alcohol in R7 but I shied from a maiden up in grade. good win. Obviously very popular and paid way unders…as did the Quinella with Soaked! The 4 was a good thing beaten and a black booker.

  5. If you can actually find anyone who was at Flemington today (and I’ll know them at least by sight), they’ll tell you that it was probably an all time worst meeting in the main ring. No outlets open and no one to notice! Bookies won. Racing lost. The only sustenance through the long afternoon – 40 mins between races is a joke – was the knowledge that others were faring worse in shopping crushes ( as witnessed driving past the Essendon DFO early this morning!). Ho Ho Ho indeed. Sandown Xmas eve will be interesting!
