Crio’s Racing: Doncaster Day

Heavy rain and a resultant heavy track has put a dampener on what looked likely to be a vintage Doncaster Day this Saturday, with Gai preening her beloved More Joyous for a fabulous final fling.
Randwick patrons should flock back after the momentous meeting last weekend. Highlights abounded. Pat Carey and Rhys McLeod won the Derby with the maiden Ethiopia. The Slipper winner, Pierro, was emphatic with his trouncing of the boom colt All Too Hard in the Sires and, perhaps most memorably, Atlantic Jewel returned in breathtaking fashion. Some day!
Four Listed races support the three Group Ones this week, though the Oaks (SR5, G1, 2400m) is a skinny affair with more scratchings likely. Streama (1) looks like being $1.60. Probably wins. No thanks.
The Quaddy opens with the Listed JRA Plate (SR6, 2000m). When in doubt, put in all the Waterhouse runners (2,9,18) and add C.Williams (12) and Vintedge (10).
Next up is a traditionally wide Randwick Mile (Doncaster, SR7, G1). You could make a case for quite a few here. I’ll be on Hurtle Myrtle (13). Kings Rose (12) will run bravely again and, of course, More Joyous (2) has an extraordinary record up there.
The Galaxy (SR8, G1, 1100m) is a really good dash with heaps of wet trackers. I’m pretty keen on Lady’s Angel (13) at about 16/1. Handles the wet, has C. Williams and chased “The Jewel” gamely last time.
Roll a dice in the last.
Much can change between now (Wednesday) and race time. I’ll be swinging the bag on the Rails at Caulfield looking for any updates…and of course monitoring here in the meantime.
Good luck!
