Crio’s Question: Leopards Changing Spots

For most of his career Justin Langer was a dogged, defensive, obsessive gnome who saw cricket as a mental and physical battle to be endured and won.

Now, as WA coach, he has denounced the Shield Final model. WA lost.

Kevin Muscat might spin his playing legacy as “hard man” but “dirty” is a more common summary.

Now, as Victory’s coach, he is appalled that star import Fahid Ben Khalfallah is fouled so often, calling on authorities to protect the skilful in the interests of the game.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Whilst both sentiments have merit, it seems, from the cries of these two recidivists, that leopards can conveniently lose spots… a continuation of a “philosophy based on self-interest” that is not uncommon amongst reinvented retired sportsmen?

Hypocrisy can be hilarious.

What might be next? What other examples can you provide?

  1. M Malthouse but legal reasons restrict me from commenting further…….

  2. Chalkdog, your decision to be discreet is probably a worthy addition to this category!

  3. How does Darren Beadmans conversion to Christianity sit in this equation ? Correct me if i’m wromg but i tend to recall this conversion occuring not long after he suffered some grievious bodily harm whilst riding in Asia. Allegedly the grievious bodily harm was a result of some ‘unethical;’ riding.

    Glen!

  4. Glen, not sure on that one but if he could get Danny Nikolic to convert then we would really have a case of “leopards changing spots”

  5. I’ll pay that jock.

    Glen!
