Cam Hooke’s Collingwood Life: Netball kicks off this week

True Believers, greetings to all.

AFLW. With sincere apologies to Dickens: “It was the best of games, it was the worst of games, it was a game of wisdom, it was a game of foolishness, it was a game of belief, it was a game of incredulity, it was a game of Light, it was a game of Darkness, it was a game of hope, it was a game of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Footy Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the game was so far like what was desired, and yet, not, for good or for bad, in the superlative degrees of comparison”.

Well, okay, maybe a little over the top, but it was a good and bad game. And, of course, we have only completed two games. In a long and successful history we will look back on our start with some amusement.

I did not enjoy that. After the fantastic start, including Moana’s unselfish assist, then one of her own, by half time I was feeling pretty confident. Then the wheels fell off. Good – I was critical last week of the speed of disposal – much better this week; intensity and application in the first half was simply outstanding – I hope our men were watching. Not so good? Don’t know – did our fitness fail us in the second half?

Some feedback on the game:

This weekend? Versus Brisbane in Brisbane – 3.35pm local time; Saturday, 18 February. No Free to Air TV coverage; but on Fox Sports. Say hi to Craig Starcevich.

Good luck, ladies. We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with you, even in challenging times.

Netball. The Super Netball season starts this weekend.

Our first game is on Saturday, 18 February versus the Melbourne Vixens at the Hisense Arena (Melbourne Park); tip off at 7.10pm.

I’m a bit confused over the TV coverage. According to the TV Guide, 9Gem coverage of the Super Netball starts at 5.00pm. I think our game will be live on Channel 9Gem, from about 7.00pm. If not broadcast live, you will be able to live-stream Saturday night games on 9Now.com.au but with a four hour delay.

Goladies. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you.

AFL.

Practice Match at Etihad versus Essendon on Thursday, 16 February; bounce at 7.40pm. Anyone going? Would love to see some ground-reporting. Look for the team on the Collingwood website a day or so before (yep, tomorrow) – always interesting to see who’s going to get a run. Who would you like to see?

Players. Some interesting reporting of Daicos’ performance at the Intra-Club game. See – http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2017-02-08/all-clear-in-encouraging-intra-club. In comparison see the earlier reporting relating to Brown (before his Glandular Fever) – http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-01-22/draftee-and-rookie-watch.

VFL.  Nothing for a while yet.

Other.

Go Pies in 2017, especially our Collingwood Magpies Netball team for their opening game this weekend and the AFLW side in Brissy.

Cam.
