BBL: How does your team rate?

It’s no secret I’m a huge sports fan, and even though I’m a bit of a purist, last year I decided to embrace the city-based Big Bash League. I’ve bought into the whole, fasted paced, firework spectacle because, well, I just love sport. Partly, and also because their marketing drew me in so well.

Their grungy advertisements that promoted rivalry was the theme that inspired me to this infographic on the teams of the BBL and their ‘supposed’ likelihood of success this season.

Interesting stats, calculations of how fantasy prices are decided, but my favorite would be the direct correlation between players with international caps, and market odds.

What are your thoughts on BBL|02 and the fantasy game?

  2. Cobba,
Interesting to see the underdog Renegades leading the pack?

  3. Was my first thought too. They’re in great form

The city-based big bash league – an apt description.

It’s as if we are being asked to finally wake up to ourselves, to finally quash this myth of Australia being some sort of frontier country.

We have been a heavily urbanised country since around the time that Australian Football was invented – that’s a long, long time ago.

Finally, cricket is asking us to recognise this reality.

Let go of the quaintness of the white-picket country grounds, and the white attire that goes with it. Let go for the idea that we can all take off five days out of busy urban lives to sit languidly and watch (as much as we would all like to be able to do precisely that).

    Embrace the city.

As Stevie Wonder tried to tell us decades ago: we are living just enough, just enough for the citteeeeee.
