Almanac Teams: Permanent Fixtures

I was outside Arturo Taverna’s place the other week (“he knows what I want”), or maybe it was Feres Trabilsie’s or it could have been Joseph’s Gallery of Beauty. I dunno, all of those bald new Australian blokes look the same to me.

Anyway, I found this. It appeared to be some sort of themed footy team, (or it could be some very clever form of ransom note) but I’m blow-waved if I can pick it.

Help me out please. Who are these guys? Who did Arturo/Feres/Joseph miss?

Comments

  1. Very Good Swish, Kerls is on the team, but has no Curls!

  2. Guy Sebastian circa 2003 for the entertainment “go the fro”

  3. Malcolm Ashwood says

Superb Swish love the rooster and Mike Poulter ( Barrie is superb also )
I admit a fair view I am struggling to name is that M Aish Ruck roving ?

  4. Phillip Dimitriadis says

Love the permed mullet. That Emergency looks vaguely familiar. Should be in the centre directing traffic and while giving tonsorial advice to teammates.
Dermott Brereton and Craig Bradley circa 1988-89 would fit beautifully in this team. Iva Davies has to be considered as entertainment for this effort: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgfR3AKCAQI

  5. Manny Koufalakis says

Top left Barrie Robran. Aish and Platten in second ruck. I think Gilbert Mcadam centre left and John Clarke below him. Mike Poulter full back.

  6. Manny Koufalakis says

Jonas right half forward and possibly GRant Zubrinich or Bradley below him?

  7. Is that Ian (Aqualung) Wallace from West Torrens on the half forward flank? Docker Zac Clarke at FF? He always reminded me of Phil (Black Irish) Lynott from Thin Lizzy with the tight afro. Great band.

  8. Rod “Curly” Austin right half back. What a kicking action. Best since Craig Cock (South Adelaide 1960’s/70’s).

  9. Mark Giuliano says

Forward Pocket RIGHT : Vin Catoggio
Forward Pocket LEFT : Adrian McAdam
    Centre Half forward: Ben Brown
    Centre: Matt Priddis
    Wing RIGHT David Brown
    Wing LEFT: Gilbert McAdam
    Half Back LEFT: Josh Gibson
    Back pocket LEFT: Gary Hocking
    Back pocket RIGHT: Todd Curley

  10. Phillip Dimitriadis says

    Peter Jonas at Half-forward?

  11. Mark 'Swish' Schwerdt says

Thanks for ruining the gag Smithy

Noel – I reckon that Doug Parkinson is still in the running

‘Book – yes that’s Aish. Don’t you recognise the CHB?

Phil – the poodle mullet, bring it back (and yes, Jonas).

Manny – correct apart from John Clarke (although he was uppermost in the selectors’ thinking) and Zubrinich/Bradley

    PB – triple bingo

Mark – 9/9, where does Arturo send the prize?

  12. Malcolm Ashwood says

    Swish Brian Adamson CHB ?

  13. steve todorovic says

Agree with all yours Mark. Ruck division is Gazza Dempsey, Michael Aish and Johnny ” the rat” Platten.
Rod “Curly” Austin on the opposite half back flank to Gibson . Interchange of Neil Kerley and John Cahill. Definitely Pete Jonas on the right half forward flank. Thought Ronnie Wearmouth would be a walk up starter in any team like this.

  14. Dr Goatboat says

Presumably you are still dressed by Thwaites men’s wear,,,,,, 20 quid the lot…., suit shirt shoes tie and belt

  15. Mark 'Swish' Schwerdt says

    Correct ‘Book

Spot on Steve and Wearmouth a glaring omission.

Dr G, it’s Trims, or Brian Ferrari for wedding hire.

  16. Lyndon Andrews says

Donald Dickie had a short but memorable career with Port Power Mainly remembered for his 1 game Mohawk

  17. That’s not G Hocking. That’s actually Whiskas. Only ever played one game.

  18. Mark 'Swish' Schwerdt says

    Thanks Beefy.

Not according to the airbrushed accounts of the Footy Record, ajc .
