Almanac Racing: Sloppy Sydney needs to shift the Carnival

There’s an obscene amount of money on offer at “Royal” Randwick this Saturday but the truth is that their meeting will be abandoned due to the state of the track. Again! Let’s finally sort things out. Sydney’s Autumn is always wet. They’ve had a real crack at offering telephone numbers of prizemoney to push The Championships, but their principal course and weather pattern don’t allow the marketers to deliver. Meanwhile here in Melbourne we have our usual beautiful March/April. Why not bite the bullet and make a switch? The RVL made some moves last year so the thin edge of the wedge is in place. I’m proposing that Melbourne moves its focus to the Autumn and Sydney takes over Spring. Let’s face it, the AFL chokes any pre-publicity until October so it would be a better investment to precede their season. Sydney is drier in September. The trade-off must be that the VRC gets a Derby slot in early April. Everything else is “on the table”.

I’m not even countenancing a Randwick meeting this Saturday which is a disaster as the programme is one of their year’s best. Instead we’ll have a Flemington meeting which has the G1 Guineas but not a lot else. I’ll watch it on TV during the Test coverage from Bangalore.

Always happy to back a winner. Help please.

Good luck!

  1. ‘Always happy to back a winner.’ If you read my st Pat’s Yea, race review you’d note i’m close to giving up!

Crio, can you please send one my direction.

    Glen!

  2. Crio,
    Back from a sabbatical?
I’ll be pinning my hopes for a result in the Guineas on So Si Bon at odds. I keep going back to it’s Caul Guineas run which it should have gone close in and think it’s a good hope despite the barrier – I assume they will run along, I’ll hit the trifectas and hope that Morton’s Fork can be in the placings as well.
Most interesting runner for the day must be Rising Romance, probably 75% of its last 12 runs have been group 1 or 2 and tomorrow it’s in a group 3 mares on the minimum. Should be her last prep so despite no wins for years I’ll be on board. Dabbling on Kaching in the last, Roger has advised it has blinkers on but I think D Lane is the rocket fuel that may assist.
There are a few OK races in Adelaide and I’m hoping to get 50’s Not So Lady Like in race 8, very dour and dug in well last start at the end, really suited by 2600 but probably not this class but it won’t cost much to find out. In the last Grumpy Guru was a huge run last start, 3 deep no cover all the way, with some better fortune it should go OK and will be good odds.

  3. Randwick racing today. Heavy9. Radar not awful but reckon they’ll run the 2yo sprints then reassess. Anyone who saw the soccer from Sydney last night would be aware of the slippery conditions – mind you, some of those blokes appear to lose their footing for a living!

  4. Have a look at So Si Bon. Beautiful looker, thinks he’s a rock star!
