Almanac Racing

With half the footy teams eliminated and a bye for the remainder, this Saturday presents as a good chance for rusty punters to transition towards the upcoming Spring Carnival.

There are more and more good horses getting to the track (check Thursday’s first trial at Randwick) and that trend will continue as we get in to September – it’s Dato Day next week and then the old Craiglee card follows.

The two state highlights are easily found – Caulfield has the season’s first G1, the million dollar Memsie (MR7, 1400m, WFA), whilst Randwick has another platform for Winx, this time the G2 Chelmsford (SR7, 1600m, WFA).

Caulfield’s quality is a bit patchy but there’s no argument that the Memsie is a worthy pipe-opener for spring features. This form will stack up. I’m sticking with Black Heart Bart but you could make a case for a few of them.

My bet of the day at the Heath is Sheidel (MR6, No4). E/W value is Tiamo Grace (MR8, No13). A watch goes on Cups bound Risque (out of So Explicit), dual accepted here and Morphettville and a potential top-liner.

Winx tows her 10 opponents around Randwick at 3.50pm.

Elsewhere there are Cups at Birdsville, Quorn and Kununurra which will doubtless be more fun and far from the greedy grab of the breeders.

Good luck if you’re having a try.

  1. Reckon that Divine Mr Artie might be the value getout at Caulfield – must go in to Quaddies

  2. Great to see good horses going around again. I’m firing up on Tosen stardom in the Memsie and will have a crack at Risque in the 2nd at ridiculous odds, currently $27, lame first up, second up last time 3rd in Aus Guineas then went to a couple of group 1’s, will need some luck but good horses find it.
In Adelaide track may be OK if no rain in the morning, if that’s the case Have Plenty in the 3rd is a good hope, doesn’t like wet tracks but was OK last time when inconvenienced and eased out in the last 200.

  3. Risque is the best horse. Big fan. Unsure if she is ready and good mail for the fav

  4. Tom Riordan says:

    Rich Luck in race three
