Almanac Milestone: 4,998,443 at 11.30am Thursday

This website is about to enjoy its 5,000,000th page view.

I know we have in our midst some who love numbers, and information, and stats, and mathematics, so I am going to keep you up to date with the tally as we get to the number.

I like the number, and I hope that all those who have lobbed on our site and viewed a page have found something which resonates. Today I am viewing Dips’s Dragster and Gary Ablett story, Phil (Lord Bogan) Dimitriadis’s No. 1 jumpers story, and Pam Sherpa’s car photo story.

It’s interesting (and reassuring) to observe that Dips, Pam and Lord Bogan have been with us from the outset, and are still bringing us their observations and insights and stories. (But where has Mulcaster gone? Probably bunkered down in his Townsville Chambers talking crap with Boot Factory Boy and Polythene Pam – a different Pam, by the way). There’s some Norwood Love in the air as well thanks to the inimitable Rulebook Ashwood.

Thanks to all those who have contributed and continue to contribute. We’ve published over 17,000 pieces from who knows how many writers.

And they have prompted comments which have turned into conversations, and friendships. Over 300,000 comments have been added.

In the time I have tapped this out the count is up to 4,998,462.

When will we get to 5,000,000. It’s like trying to predict when the last of the small yachts will straggle in to Constitution Dock. I know some of you love the Maths, so here’s the equation. In the Tigers’ hangover, the site has gone a little quiet, so we are averaging about 1700 page views per day. Things slow down at about 11pm. The night owls and internationals might come to 150 by 7am tomorrow, when she bubbles up in congress with the Birko.

Nominate your time.

Winner gets a ride on Dips’s Dragster. Or, better still, a dink.

Midday tally:  4,998,481.

We have been celebrating some of the memorable pieces on www.footyalmanac.com.au over the years with our recent Almanac Classics post. See what people have nominated, and add your own suggestion. CLICK HERE to go to the post.

  1. To keep it in perspective, in a single day afl.com gets 500,000 before Patrick Keane heads out for his afternoon Kitchener bun.

  2. Dragstar or Dragster? Probably the former

  3. AEDT 10.23:45am Friday Oct 27

  4. No, you’re right. Dragster. I’ll add a photo.

  5. These stats are a con. 1,379,563 “readers” were me clicking back in again to see if there were any new comments on my pieces.

  6. Sometime during the Odd Friday lunch.
    Let’s say 2pm

  11. John Butler says

JTH, I can remember us trying to follow the count down to the millionth hit.

Not sure if the awarding of that honour was strictly scientific. :)

    Long live the Almanac!

  12. Sitting with The Handicapper in The People’s Republic of Northcote. Tally 4,999,436 at 11.24pm.

  13. Phillip Dimitriadis says

Great stuff JTH and Almanac Crew.
I would love Dips to dink me on his dragster along with a wheelie. Would love to see a photo/video of that. Dips, are you up for it?

  14. Stephen Alomes says

The wonderful thing about the Almanac is that it is generally a troll free zone, even if not everyone follows JTH’s wisdom in his choice of AFL club.
Such a change from so many other sites (including ‘respectable” online newspapers) where there is a lot of spats, a bit like the Hyphen and Jacko on the wing, when all the play is in the forward pocket.
It is a world free of all that pointless abuse where trolls’ elbows are flying in any direction.

  15. I miss Mark Doyle.
Come back, mate. All is forgiven.

  16. Phil – get me a dragster and I’ll dink you up to Peck’s Dam. Then we can yuck a few yonnies into the water.

  17. Malcolm Ashwood says

    100 per cent agree,Stephen Alomes

  18. Neil Anderson says

Looking forward to seeing the Tiger’s cover on the Almanac this year. Also apologies for not being available for Yoshi’s do tonight, but I have been in touch with him several times since he arrived in Melbourne.

  19. I hope Dips is already pedalling across the Nullarbor to give me that dink I won.

  20. did someone leak this to Cash’s office so she could raid you before it happened and bogart the dragstar?
