Almanac Funny Teams: A team of players from our wide brown land and all its features

I’ve been thinking about the lay of the land, our landscape. I remember Leonard Teale’s recitation of Dorothea McKellar’s, My Country with all its imagery. The land; what grows on it,what flows through it, what it’s built upon.

Then I thought, hey, pronto, let’s try compiling a team of players from our wide brown land, players whose names can reflect the land, with its features.

So here we go.

B: J Hay, (NM/Haw). Brian Lake, (WB/Haw). P Wood, (Fitz).

HB: P Hay, (Haw). J Rivers, (Melb/Geel). E Wood, (WB).

C: B Wood, (Rich/Ess).  S Hill, (Freo). R Flower, (Melb).

HF: M Wood, (NM).  H Clover, (Carl). E Lake, (Ess).

F: S Mount, (Rich). Bruce Lake, (Ess/Foot). A Rock, (NM/Haw).

Foll: M Hill (Haw). T Waters, (Coll). S Hill, (Freo).

Int, from: D Clay, (Rich). T Mountain, (Melb/Geel). T, Flower (Melb). P Hills, (Ess). B Hill, (Haw/Freo). W Wood, (Foot).

Is this the best team in the land ?

Glen!

Phil, can you really count Les Primrose? It’s a classic English flower which was introduced to the Wide Brown Land. You might as well include Bob Rose or Geoff Leek.
