AFL Round 16: Idiot umpires

by Danielle Eid

I woke up at my usual 12:30 in the afternoon, might I add that I was forced to wake up and would have slept in but whatever!

After putting out a load of laundry outside (mum’s orders) I settle down to watch the Richmond vs. North match for two reasons.

1. To prove to my mother that I CAN write for a team other than Collingwood.

2. Its an excuse to get away from doing any more housework.

The camera man focuses on Andrew Swallow, Man I WISH I could trade him for Toovey. North score the first through Hansen who then misses his second soon after.

Liam Anthony, my new husband whom I received in the last ‘That’s Your Husband Game’, is getting the ball early but could be cleaner with his disposal.

Im not complaining about my husband, I just wish he was a brunet!

Most of the North Boys are blondies with the exception of the experimental types.

Nahas snaps one for Richmond and so far I’m not impressed because I expected a faster flowing game. Goals fly from Riewoldt, Polo and Nahas for Richmond as the game speeds up.

Three words: Dangerous, Damaging Deledio!

Deledio is defiantly the mastermind in setting up from the center.

Wait a minute, HEY HEY…Jayden Post, where have you been all my life?

Wouldn’t mind him for a husband, even if he did miss two goals!

RICH: 29              North Melbourne: 9

Is it too late to lend Swan and Didak to North just for this game?

Mum’s still vacuuming so I open myself a can of tuna for lunch. I’m telling you I will never be a good cook which isn’t good news for all my football playing husbands!

I’m the girl who manages to burn toast!

I return back to the TV to find the score at

RICH: 35             North: 10

Hale sprays a crucial one: “idiot!”

While Richmond scores easily, I don’t even want to watch this anymore.

Anyone who knows me would know that for some reason I have a soft sport for North.

Can’t really explain it but I think it has something to do with Sav Rocca.

I used to LOVE Sav when I was like 5 years old and I still remember crying at the Collingwood-North game when he retired. (That’s a story for another day)

When Greenwood scores the angels in heaven break out in alleluia chorus but come to halt at Riewoldt’s quick reply.

Add North’s injury worries to the score; yup this is NOT going to be pretty.

RICH: 66            North: 24

North starts with a goal From Harding until they muck up along the line which results in a Richmond goal. Watching North is pretty frustrating to be honest.

There is much more action, North are coming back.

Swallow goals and gets a huge cheer on my behalf, such maturity in the young man.

RICH: 75           North: 59

I make myself a hot chocolate in time to catch the last quarter.

Harvey scores: “YES, come on!”

Petrie misses, looks like you can’t have everything!

Harvey scores AGAIN!

A TWO POINT DIFFERENCE!

Hale delivers North up by one point “About time David!”

Richmond reply to level the score, 79 points all.

Harding gives The Roos the lead!

Richmond replies AGAIN, what a game!

HALE gets the ball!!…WHAT!…FREE AGAINST HALE?..WHAT!

Siren

RICH: 85             NORTH: 85

A DRAW! “effing umpire!”

  1. Steve Healy says

    Great writing Danielle.

I find it strange that you get encouraged by your Mum to write about another team, and you get rewarded for it?

Jayden Post still hasn’t kicked a goal in his career, but I think he will be a good player. He just isn’t the best kick on goal.

  2. Danielle says

    Thanks Steve,
Mum isnt into footy at all and she wanted me to write for a another team to see if i could pull it off. Me being a Taurus and stubborn went ahead and did so just to prove her wrong.
Jayden Post got a good dose of footy and if he learns from Deledio he could be really good.

  3. Josh Barnstable says

You should write more games that don’t involve Collingwood Danielle. Do you know many of the players on each team of the competition? Or are you just familiar with the good looking ones? Haha :)

  4. Danielle says

Joshy! ive never been so insulted! nah only joking. :)
yeah i would like to write for other teams but with the school work load ive kept it to only Collingwood games. Plus if i wrote for Collingwood and another team Paul and John would get sick of me!
its not my fault i remember the goodlooking players, i cant help it!
being a North supporter how do you think i went for my first try??

    Danni

  5. Josh Barnstable says

Jeez you make it sound like school is hard! Year 9’s been a breeze for me so far haha.

Yeah the story was good. You got the Hale moment at the end completely right! And you could tell you were favouring North in the story, which is allowed :)

Oh and i don’t know how you can stomach tuna. It’s terrible haha.

  6. Danielle says

    Year 9???
i wish i was stil in year nine, best year of my life!! year 11 sucks!!
tuna is good, its my diet food!
its day 3 of, im not going to eat anything unhealthy…its not working so ill start tomorrow?
by the way im thinking for next round (round 18) comming we should like mould both our pieces into one, you write for the Pies and i will write for North, let me know what you think.

    Danni

  7. Josh Barnstable says

So your saying you write a North report and i’ll write a Collingwood report?

  8. Danielle says

yep exactly! then during the report it switches from a bit of your game then to mine, you know like a news report?

  9. Josh Barnstable says

Ohhh i get ya…sounds interesting haha but yeah i’ll give it a go.

  10. Danielle says

Cool josh this should be fun.
    :)
    Danni

  11. Damian Watson says

    Entertaining piece Danielle,

Your lucky you get to sleep in till 12:30 on a Sunday!

By that time I am getting ready for my footy match and I get to see barely any action from any AFL game on the Sunday.

  12. Danielle says

Damian, ill bet that it doesnt take you 3 hours to get ready to go to the footy like it does for me!
ive bought myself a sleeping mask thats says: “WAKE AT OWN RISK!”
lets hope my family gets the hint.
    :) Danni

  13. Steve Healy says

3 hours to get ready for the footy?

You’d have to wake up before 12:30 to do that!(for afternoon games).

Turns out Nathan Brown isn’t ok.

  14. Danielle says

WHAT!! tell me what you know!
this is NOT what i want to hear, why is it always Nathan and never Toovey?
WOW i feel so mean..but its TRUE!!

  15. Steve Healy says

Well I see Out-Nathan Brown (Knee) on Collingwood’s team.

At least it’s not bad as the Dees’ team. Jamar, Grimes and Green all out.

  16. Danielle says

OMG!! im just going to sit in a dark corner and CRY!!
there is NO way the Blues wont win now.
atleast they put Dawes in the team.
excuse me while i throw a drama queen tantrum…. :(

  17. Andrew Starkie says

Danielle, good luck with the report tonight. Welcome to the Almanac 2009. You must come to the launch in November.

    Go Roos

  18. Danielle says

Thanks, im going to need it!
    i keep saying to myself:
‘just pretend its a normal entry, stop worrying woman!!’
Im not confident about the game, Mick has a lot of work to do.
    :)

  19. Steve Healy says

I think it will be very close Danielle.

But Carlton have gained a key defender this week and Collingwood have lost one.

Carlton have also won the last 3 against the pies.

Are you going to the game?

  20. Danielle says

No im not going, id rather not with the record we have!
Add that my husband isnt playing, no reason to show up really!
i hope its a close one, id love a win but i dont think its gonna happen.
    :( Danni

  21. Josh Barnstable says

Hope your looking forward to the clash guernsey Collingwood will be wearing tonight Danielle :) I picked Carlton to win. Sorry :(

  22. Danielle says

Hey Josh, well were on the same boat with the tipping, i tipped the blues.
OHHH GOD please dnt tell me the boys are wearing that white “THING”
    ohh god!!
    :( Danni

  23. Steve Healy says

I like Collingwood’s clash guernsey. I dont know why any Collingwood supporter would hate it.
It’s just like their old jumper before 2001.
I picked Carlton to win as well.

    Anyway, changing the subject,
I really hope the Dees win this week.

I’m off to Canberra tomorrow morning.

  24. Josh Barnstable says

Oh that’s good that your supporting your team Steve, even when they are playing interstate. I picked Melbourne on the Radio with Crackers Keenan, but I had a look at the changes in the team and i’m not so confident now. 7 players out?? Maybe the Dees are tanking? Nah they wouldn’t be, Jim would be disgusted with that.

  25. Josh Barnstable says

Oh and congrats on getting a spot in the Almanac for one of the biggest games this year Danielle. Hope you make a good story and i look forward to reading it in the book. By the way does anyone know what date the book launch Andrew said of is?

  26. Danielle says

Thanks Josh, im so happy but like stressed because im getting writer’s block!!!
hopefully i can pull it off.
No i dont know that date, its the first ive actually heard about the book launch.

  27. Josh Barnstable says

Just think of it as a normal game you are writing about, and the game is sure to be full of incidents and stories we’ll all be talking about this time next week so that writer’s block should disappear and you’ll have plenty to write about. Good luck!
